    Alligator (1980)

    IMDB synopsis:

Ramon is flushed down the toilet as a baby and grows into a gargantuan monster by devouring the corpses of lab animals which have undergone dubious hormone experiments, thus providing all the ecological and social subtext that one could possibly wish for, even if one doesn't normally go for films about giant alligators eating people left, right, and center--which is the inevitable and tragic result of Ramon's decision that the outside world looks rather more interesting than the sewers. NOTE: This is THE cult classic of gator movies!

    Alligator II: The Mutation (1991)

    IMDB synopsis:

A giant alligator runs riot in a small town with a lake connected to a sewer/drainage system. Typical plot: Nobody believes the sightings until lots of people have been killed. Richard Lynch is great as a legendary "mighty hunter"!

    Komodo (1999)

    IMDB synopsis:

During the '70s, some Komodo dragon eggs were dumped on the beach of a North Carolina island. Twenty years later, they have grown up to take over the island though still undiscovered. Young Patrick (Kevin Zegers) is left traumatized by an incident on that island and has undergone treatment. His therapist, who doesn't believe the dragons are real, takes him back so that he can confront his fears. NOTE: To me, the effects are impressive, and the interaction of the CGI creatures and people is quite convincing. The standout is an early sequence in which the boy encounters the at-that-point unseen menace. Two words of warning: doggie door!

    Curse of the Komodo (2004)

    IMDB synopsis:

Genetically-engineered Komodo dragons have become enormous creatures hunting people on a remote tropical island. A small group of scientists must stop the dragons before they escape the island and destroy the rest of the world.

    Primal Force (1999)

    IMDB synopsis:

A private plane carrying the daughter of a rich businessman crashlands on the uninhabited island of San Miguel off the coast of Mexico, an island regarded by the locals as cursed. The businessman's Chief of Security mounts a high-tech mission to rescue the survivors and, in his search to find a guide, comes across Frank Brodie (Ron Perlman delivering a great performance), a man who was on the island 10 years previously... He was the only man left alive after a disastrous experiment in mutant animal genetics left the place infested with creatures that have only one aim in life: to kill. NOTE: They are genetically altered baboons that are terrifying foes.

    Blood Surf (2000)

    aka Krocodylus

    IMDB synopsis:

A pair of entrepreneurs with more bravery than brains hit upon the idea of blood surfing: spreading chum in the water in order to attract sharks then hopping on a surfboard and riding through the middle of the pack. As they're filming their promotional documentary, the fun gets interrupted by a 30-foot-long saltwater crocodile that begins snacking on everyone in the expedition. Will any of them make it back to civilization?

    Dark Age (1987)

    IMDB synopsis:

In Australia's Northern Territory, a massive saltwater crocodile is attacking and killing people. A ranger is assigned to deal with the killer crocodile, but he finds himself at odds with the local Aborigines, who believe the crocodile contains the spirit of their past and want this goliath-sized beast preserved. The ranger must work with the Aborigines to develop a plan to respect their wishes as well as protecting the local residents threatened by the croc.

    Nightwing (1979)

    IMDB synopsis:

Deputy Youngman Duran and Walter Chee both are looking out for the survival of the Southwestern American Indians. So is tribal priest Abner Tsupi, who has decided to end the world so that his people stand a chance of survival. When a horse is found dead of multiple punctures and smelling of ammonia, Duran and Chee argue over who should handle the investigation. Then, a scientist arrives, a man who has tracked plague-carrying bats to that vicinity. NOTE: This film is unlike all of those other creature features. It's based on Martin Cruz's best-selling novel, which is a far better story than others you might have seen ("Bats" with Lou Diamond Phillips, for example~not that it isn't an entertaining film).

You also might look for these:

Savage Harvest~a fact-based story about rampaging lions during a drought in Africa

The White Buffalo~set in the Old West, a mythic story in which Wild Bill Hickok and Crazy Horse confront the mammoth creature

Orca~vendetta waged by a killer whale against the man who killed its mate and child~~This and the film above were produced about the same time by Dino De Laurentiis, and they sure make up for his "King Kong" remake! It's supposedly inspired by orca behavior.

Should you ever want one that is more fanciful, there's just one "Q" aka "Q: The Winged Serpent"~possibly Quetzalcoatl of ancient lore. The beastie has chosen to nest in the top of the Chrysler Building in New York City!

The Mist, which just came out. It has "otherworldly" creatures in it, but it's a fantastic movie! There's also: Megalodon (sixty foot, prehistoric shark; 2002), Rottweiler (2004), Snakes on a Plane (2006), Anaconda (1997), Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004), Shakma (killer baboon; 1990), Slither (alien worms/slugs; 2006).

Sorry, that's all I could think of!
