No the Macbook Air does not come with a CD drive. Uses too much space and battery I guess... You have to buy an additional docking CD drive from Apple.

Dont buy a MacBook Air. It doesnt have a CD Drive, and it is enormously expensive. Its got a 13 inch tiny screen, Its supposedly an "ultra portable", Yet if you want to run anything that requires a driver disk, which a whole lot of things these days do, you need to carry it with the disk drive dangling down, which trust me, is an inconvenience. Its got a crappy processor, either 1.6 ghz, or 1.8 ghz, and if you want the 1.8ghz processor, you need to take the 64gb SSD, which jacks the price up a thousand dollars. Not to mention, if you want any of the flashy Mac software, and a warranty, thats another thousand dollars. So basically, your buying a slow laptop, with a hugely expensive SSD, a seperate disk drive, a tiny screen, and only 2 gb of memory, for the same amount as you could get an Alienware 17 inch laptop, with dual GPUs, a way faster CPU, a bigger hard drive, and a CD drive actually attached to it! the Alienware M9750 > Macbook Air, and is probably cheaper. It also looks way cooler anyway. You can also run games on it. get the alienware.

The MacBook Air (the brand new UltraThin) does not have a built in optical (CD/DVD) drive. Instead it wirelessly connects to the optical drive in a desktop (Mac or PC) that you have in the house - as long as the second computer has a wireless card.

Or you can buy a USB optical drive for the MB Air from Apple for $99. Then you can read all CD's and DVD's without a second computer.

The MacBook and MacBook Pro models both have a fully loaded optical drive: those laptops will play CD's and DVD's with the built in drive.

The MacBook comes with either a Combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive in the basic model, or a SuperDrive DVD+/-RW DL drive in the more advanced models.

The MacBook Pro comes with a standard SuperDrive DVD+/-RW DL drive, no matter which model you get.

The MacBook Air doesn't have an optical drive. Instead, it either links to another computer's optical drive or uses an USB optical drive (Apple or other brands).
