Is curl wax also a heat protectant?

I was wondering if curl wax is a heat protectant on it's own or do you have to use something else first to protect hair from the heat of the curling iron and then use the curl wax?

If it makes a difference, I have chemically relaxed hair.

i would say no, because i got my hair pressed at a salon and they used curl was for it, and some parts of my hair would not revert back to it's natural state because it had heat damage

No curl wax is to make the curls stay in your hair. The wax makes your hair kind of stiff. Curl wax is better than using nothing because it does moisturize your hair and I helps when using heat. You can go to a hair store and ask for a heat protectant because they sell them in the form of sprays and rubs.
