having a bankruptcy removed from my credit report?

i have a chapter 7 bankruptcy on my credit report which was done in 1999. I am trying to find out when this will be removed. I know the general rule is 7-10 years, but is there someplace i can go or something I can do to know when this will be taken off my credit report? I have been looking all over and can't seem to find a straight answer!

10 years from the day you filed. If it's still on there like in 2010, dispute it. But, yeah you got a year to go. Sometimes, the bankruptcy thing doesn't hurt that much. My mom filed a few years back and her score is like around lower 700's and she gets good offers now. But, good luck to ya.

It will be ten years next year. You can have your credit report ran for free. You don't need to use those sites like free credit report .com. You just request it in writing from the credit bureau like Equifax , Esperion, or the others. Then you can see if it is showing. If you have established credit like buying a car and having credit cards and pay on time the BK drops to a low priority. After seven years it is a non issue if you have good credit now. BK is often done by people who own business that fail in order to protect themselves from creditors. But a foreclosure is much worse. It means you couldn't even pay for your house. That is so bad and effects your credit for 7 to 10 years also.

I filed chapter 7 in 2000. Last year my credit report said it was due to drop off in March of 2008. I'm waiting untill about April or May to check again to see if it really did drop off.
