In Ephesians 4:22, we learn that we are to “put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt.” And Philippians 1:27 instructs us to let our “conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ.” Any Bible scholar will verify the fact that the word, “anastrofhn,” translated “conversation” in the KJV, means a way of life or by our definition, culture. This is because those who love the Lord and believe His Word are to adopt and practice a way of life that very practically becomes what can be called Christian Culture.

God is unchangeable, His principles of right are always the same, and they will never pass away. In His Word He has given us the principles of “a way of life” (culture) that will never change and must be applied to every area of life, including music.

How does this apply to Contemporary Christian Music? Any observer of the culture that accompanies much of CCM must admit that the lifestyle, the language, the attitude, the lack of separation and musical standards, all fall far short of what the Bible requires of those who believe “the gospel of Christ.” Even those who are involved in this genre recognize the power of CCM to control the culture of those who adhere to it. For instance, Michael Hamilton in writing for Christianity Today says: “When one chooses a musical style today, one is making a statement about whom one identifies with, what one’s values are, and ultimately who one is.”

It only draws people to church because of its worldly connections and it is sad that many have embraced it and are slowly or fast moving towards to worlds standards

The new songs are probably less weird to new Christians or visitors; many are upbeat and easy to sing, and I can see the right congregation really rocking out to them, which might make them more fun for the musicians too. Whereas something like "A Mighty Fortress" we can call an acquired taste; those old hymns are didactic, sometimes dark or tough musically, less facile. They may even bring up bad memories for some people.

I prefer the old ones by leaps and bounds of course, and am glad to see others of the same mind. But these songs that have survived for decades or even centuries are the best of their age. I hope the best of the current age will eventually be added to the hymnals without canning the antique jewels.

adding: The happy-clappy thing that gets to me is the love-song-to-Jesus and so-happy-could-praise-praise-forever stuff. It just seems vacuous and while good for occasional celebration, not a sound basis to build worship around; those highs are so fickle.

I can't stand most of the modern music played in churches today. It's mediocre, unimaginitive, bland.

Most people (christians and non-christians) gravitate to boring, unimaginitve music. How else can we explain the billions of dollars spent on "pop" music every year?

Being "entertaining" is not the point. Contemporary worship music is just like the Victorian hymns but in the style and thought of our time. The old hymns were new once, and many of them were quite shocking in their day. The new hymns and songs are the expression of our praise in the idioms of our time. Many churches that have modern worship songs are growing, because they are demonstrating that church isn't about musty old hymns but about a real-life faith lived out in the 21st century.

I'm glad you find the music so entertaining. But you appear to be having a dichotomy about the music - are you angry because it's modern? Because it's entreating? Or because it , "draws so many in?"

I had already answered your other question about the rock music. We should be really careful in the end time. Devil is more cunning. he puts his stuff in true worshippers so that he will get more followers. Don't compare the number of people. Bible says that Many are called and few are chosen
