Is it possible to eat approx 2500 calories a day yet keep a varied diet?

There are so many people saying the average male should eat around 2500 calories a day - but is it actually possible to have a varied diet that meets all the supposed limits of calories, fat, sugar, salt etc etc?

Where can I find ideas of varied diets to help me lose weight without getting bored of the meals within 2 weeks? (Yes, I admit, I am a slightly fussy eater)! :)

You definitely can have a varied diet at 2500 calories a day! You'll need to add lots of fruits and veggies in though to feel like you are eating enough and to get variety in.

Cooking websites like FoodNetwork.com have healthy recipes, and there are LOTS of great cookbooks and cooking magazines out there aimed at light cooking. I like that with magazines I can purchase those that have recipes I know I like. Even Weight Watcher's site has some good free cooking ideas.

Also, I would recommend using a website to calculate your BMR to find out how many calories you actually use in a day, and you can decide from there what is a good calorie amount for you. 2500 might be too low or it could be too high, depending on your age and weight. Here is one site: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

I eat 1500 calories a day and have lost 4 stone in 6 mths. I eat everything that I want even sweets but I never go over my limit. for example, I even out that each meal should be no more that 500 calories. If I eat less for lunch I top up at dinner. At breakfast I only have shreddies so I save myself 300 calories. when you have lost the weight you should aim for 2000 for women and 2500 for men to maintain a steady weight.

An adult male, assuming that you aren’t 5’3” and you have a decent amount of muscle mass, can lose weight on 2500 calories with a lot of exercise. If you take advice from female dieters and consume the same number of calories they do, you will starve yourself and damage your metabolism. 2500 calories isn’t that restrictive though. Most of the time, if you just focus on consuming one gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight, and and .5g of fiber/kg, without exceeding your calorie limit, you should be OK. This is, of course, if you are eating real food, and not supplements. You can’t just drink a protein shake, and some Metamucil, and spend the rest of your calories on Junk.

As long as you are eating a variety of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to fulfill your fiber requirements, and a variety of lean meats fish, beans, and nuts to fulfill your protein requirements, you should be fine on all of the vitamins an minerals without counting and calculating to figure out exactly what you would need to eat to get 100% of your daily allowance of every nutrient. You might only get 70% of your daily allowance of iron today, but you might have a steak w/ spinach salad tomorrow and make up for it by getting 150%. Variety is the key to making sure you are getting all the nutrition you need, so fulfilling your nutritional requirements should in no way restrict your variety. Don’t sweat the ratios of calories from carbs to fats to proteins. All that is really important, is that get the nutrients you need while burning more calories than you consume.

To be honest though, I very much doubt you'll lose weight eating 2500 calories a day. Prob better to aim for 1500.

There are dozens of fruits and vegetables. They're very low in calories, especially vegetables. Some raw food diet advocates claim it's impossible to overeat on raw food diet, due to the time it takes to chew/digest raw vegetables (you're supposed to chew each mouthful around 30 times, and raw food forces you to chew more)

while you're at a training camp, they are in a position to tell you which you would be ingesting greater now than ever. Michael Phelps the Olympic swimmer, eats 12,000 energy an afternoon!!! he's training for 6 - 10 hours an afternoon so he burns all of those energy!! the less exercising you do, the less energy you opt for.

Say to friends, family and work co-workers that you’re dieting. Support through the people around you keeps a person motivated, stops you from cheating and makes it less likely that you're going to fall off the wagon.
