URGENT REAL URGENT: How do I calculate exponents for this question, Using a Scientific Calculator TI-30X IIB?
THe number of mutual funds in Canada, M, is modeled by the equation M =460(1.19)^n, where n is the number of years since 1989.
a) When will the number of mutual funds reach 10,000. Answered I divided 10,000 by the equation 460(1.19), and recieved 21.73.
b) How many years will it take for the number of mutual funds to triple. I need to figure out the exponent for this one.
The calculator I am using is a Texas Instruments TI-30X IIB, and it is just a scientifc calculator.
Thank you to all.

For a, the equation is 10000 = 460 (1.19^n)
Dividing by 460 gives 21.739 = 1.19^n
Now you must take the log of both sides to get the exponent n to be multiplied instead:
log 21.739 = n log 1.19
So divide log 21.739 by log 1.19 to get n
Then for the other, just put whatever 3 times 460 is in for M and do the same thing.
