burning anti-freeze?

My car was running hot last week, stopped at station, filled up antifreeze. Found that the radiator was leaking, brought it to be fixed for $350. When I got it back, running really rough, white smoke coming from exhaust (burning antifreeze). Stops after running for awhile, but major when it sits and then I start it. It also runs really rough until I get it opened up, then I have no problems. Hesitant to take it to the place that replaced the radiator, don't trust them now. Any thoughts, I need to get to work.

Update:

I just had it there, I think they sabotaged something, no in a hurry to take it back.

you could have a few different problems. a blown head gasket will present itself that way, a cracked head or engine block will also show up that way, if you had a damaged radiator, and drove while the engine was hot, that can cause those above listed problems to happen. now you have to take it to a shop to get the problem diagnosed. i wish you the best of luck. the head gasket can be a little expensive but the block or heads, that will get pricey.

what has happened is you have either blown a head gasket, cracked the block, or cracked the cylinder head. When you ran it out of coolant from the radiator leak, you overheated the engine causing the head gasket to go, or cracked the block/cylinder head. It's also possible that you have warped the head also. It's running rough because coolant is being drawn into the cylinders fouling up the spark plug. After you let it sit, the cylinder is filling up with coolant. after you drive it, you have burned all of the coolant out of the cylinders, or possibly even the crack in the head swells shut after heating up. this used to happen all the time with cars that have aluminum cylinder heads. they would misfire until they warmed up then stopped because the crack in the head would close up due to the metal expanding. I'd be looking for a used engine to swap in. It would probably be cheaper in the long run than tearing the old engine down and then finding out the head is cracked then have to buy a new head.

Check the dipstick or oil filler cap for a consistency the same as toffee yoghurt. If so, the head gaskets gone. I've never heard of anyone burning anti-freeze, not even my brother who's abuse of cars is legendary. White smoke means several things, even the big ends.

If your car is blowing out white smoke, you have a blown head gasket. If you drive it it will stop. You are doing a lot of damage to the car. I will bet if you pull out the oil stick you will find it is full of water.

You need to bring it back to the shop and sue them. they should have told you that your car was running rough. Now you need a Head gasket. Its going to cost you more then $900.00 to replace the Head Gasket. Don't try to run your car. Have it towed to a service auto Mechanic.....Henry

Could be you've blown the head gasket. Take it to a shop and have them pressure test the cooling system.
