Why are gas prices so high?

I pay $3.15 a gallon for regular. When a couple of years ago it was a little over $2.00. And still yet, it doesn't cost the oil companies any more to drill than it did 10 years ago.

    Few reasons:

Price of a barrel of oil is over $100.00 per barrel.

The fear that the supply will get even lower as the usage gets higher.

    GREED of the oil Industry.

By the way I could remember in the '80s when a gallon of gas was anywhere from $1.00 a gal to $1.20 a gal.

There are a number of issues that cause the price of gas to be so high. To start with, let's point the finger at the media and their constant negative message about the United States. Then let's look to Congress who refuses to allow us to build new refineries or drill for more oil. And still looking at Congress, look at how much it costs companies to actually work in the United States.

Finally, the biggest pressure on the price of gas is the federal government. Regulation here, EPA emissions standards there, taxes, and cost of doing business. Remove the government from the companies and watch how fast he prices come down.

Our oil companies do not drill, they mostly import, and supply is being fixed by Opec while demand rises. China and India, two countries with very large populations, have reached a point in industrialization where a lot of people are purchasing cars, and gas to drive them.

    CONSIDER THIS:

What does the average oil company make today on the sale of a gallon of gas? Ten cents. The federal tax on gasoline, on the other hand, is nearly twice that. Then there's state gasoline taxes. (If you live in New York, for example, you're paying 68 cents a gallon in taxes.) If Exxon is gouging us at ten cents a gallon, what exactly is the federal government doing to us at 18.4 cents a gallon?

    THINK ABOUT IT!

Funny, nobody complains about Microsoft making 2000% profit on Vista Software, or Dell Computers making 600% profit on lap tops, or IBM making 400% profit on I-phones and I-pods.

Increased demand, a weaker dollar, and unrest and uncertainty in much of the oil producing areas cause speculators and hedge funds to drive up the cost of oil on the commodity market.

Because the price of oil is set worldwide in dollars and the value of the dollar has declined drastically so the price has gone up. Cheaper dollars equals more dollars per gallon.

ask bush!!!! the oil companies need to keep thier ceo's pockets full as well as donate money to the polititions so oil spills (like valdez) don't have to be completely cleaned up. the gas stations do not make the money, only the corporations like exxon, shell, british petroleum, etc. look what their profits were the last quarter. they don't care about what we have to pay. we have trillions of gallons of oil stored but we keep getting it elsewhere. they even shut down oil wells in oklahoma. no they didn't run dry. yes our country does use a lot of oil but we do have enough here for our own use.

Decreasing vaule of the dollar, rising inflation, increased global demand for oil.

The better question is why are prices so high and why are the oil companies making such a high profit again to the point that, once again, it is being investigated?

The dollar is becoming worthless, there is no shortage of oil or gasoline.
