Can somebody PLEASE explain baseball and some current events about it?
Yeah, like explain the game and stuff. Good players, awesome teams, retired players, who's been winning lately, ect. Thanks!
(I'm trying to get educated about some sports...)
What I mean is, like explain the game of baseball and what's been happening lately.
Oh, and I can't hate the Phillies. I practically live there. You don't realized how much my rep would go down! xD
Have no boyfriend. Crush who likes baseball. He talks to me a lot about baseball and I want to understand him better. Close enough, though! You deserve a thumbs up.

Sure. Baseball can sometimes sound like a complex game, but it is rather simple. You probably already know some technical things about the game, but I will go over them anyway. Generally, there are nine players in the field. A pitcher, a catcher, four infielders, [first base, second base, shortstop (in between second base and third base) and third base.] and three outfielders. (right field, center field, and left field)
There is a batter that tries to hit the baseball that the pitcher throws using a bat. Once you get a hit, you have to run around the bases and score a run. The objective of baseball is very simple. All you have to do is score more runs as a team in the game then the other team. Simple, right? It may not sound like it, but it really is pretty basic.
The nine fielders, however, try to get an out. The defense (fielders) needs to get three outs in an inning. (ask someone else what an inning is, it's very difficult to explain.) An out can be made in many ways. Generally, an out can be achieved through a strikeout, (three strikes on the batter) a ball hit on the ground (ground ball) that is thrown to the first basemen, or if the ball is caught in the air by a fielder. There is also what is called fair ground or foul ground. The baselines on the field not only show the baseline a runner must follow between home plate and first base, and third base to home plate, but they also show fair and foul ground. A ball that is hit on the other side of the foul line (away from the field) then it is foul. A ball hit on the side of the field that inside of the foulline is fair. Also, some batting terms. A homerun is when the baseball is hit over the fence in the outfield inside fair ground. A single is when a batter hits the ball and reaches first. A double is when a batter hits the ball and reaches second. The same with a triple, except the batter reaches third base with a hit.
An error is when a fielder misplays the ball. For example, on a flyball the fielder gets under it, but drops the ball and the batter reaches base safely. That is an error.
Some good players... Well, unfortunetly a lot of the good players in baseball have been accussed of taking steriods to help enhance their play. Some good, "pure players" are batters Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies, (my team!) Chase Utley of the Phillies, Albert Puljols (spelled wrong) of the St. Louis Cardinals, and lets throw in Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers. In his days with the Marlins, he killed the phillies! Some good pitchers of the game are Roger Clemens, (allegedy did steriods, he is at the end of his career) Tim Hudson of the Atlanta Braves, Johan Santana of the Mets, (he will become a philly killer too, watch) and lets throw in Cole Hamels of the Phillies.
Here are some good teams in my opinion: Yankees, (growing old, but still a potent team) Mets, (hate them) Redsox, Tigers, Indians, Angels, Cubs, (why not?) Rockies (young and dangerous) and...sure, lets add in my Phillies. They have an outstanding offense, but have a very unsatisfactory pitching staff that every year limps it way on throughout the season.
Some retired players... Well there are A LOT of retired players, but some good ones that I still remember playing (i'm only 14 so I don't remember that deep in baseball history) are Roger Clemens (most likely will retire soon), Ricky Henderson, (I only remember his later days) Mo Vaughn, and Tony Gwyn. I'd say the best team in baseball right now is arguable the Redsox. Some other winning teams as of late have been the suprising 07 Rockies, the Phillies, (07 NL East Champs!) the Indians, mets..., the Cubs, Yankees, Padres, Dodgers, Tigers, and the Bluejays should be pretty good this year as well.
So, that is basically Baseball. There is a lot more in the game, but that is the basic outline of it. Even though it is a rather simple game, it is very difficult to explain at times. I hope this helps!

ok here you go....
Baseball consists of 9 players 3 Outfielders, 4 in fielders, and a pitcher.
In the outfield you have a left fielder (usually the weakest fielder) example would be old players like barry bonds, or young players playing out of position like Chris duncan. then you have Center field, this fielder needs to cover the most ground on the field so he has to be fast and have great glove work. and right field is also a heavy defensive position.
In the Infield you have 1st base, every ground ball finds its way to first for a out, so the 1st baseman has to have exeptional glove work to dig bad throws out of the dirt. 2nd base, usually small fast guys so they can help turn a double play. short stop is alot like a 2nd baseman but has a much better arm, because they have to throw alot further to 1st base. and the 3rd base AKA the "Hot Corner" requires some one with quick reactions so he can catch hard it ball coming from the Big right handed batters in the lineup. In my opinion the most valuable position on the field (other than the pitcher) is the catcher. the catcher controls the game, talks with the pitcher when he is strugglings, calls what pitches to throw, and could end a inning by throwing some one out on the basepaths.
i hope i didnt lose you yet.
Good players would consist of
Power hitters(guys that hit home runs/drive runners home)- Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Carlos Lee, David Ortiz, Manny rameriez.
Contact hitters (people hit for a high average)- not including the already mentioned, Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, Ichiro susuki, and others
Awesome teams have been Yanks and Boston because they can afford the best players. others include, Angels, Diamondbacks, indians, tigers, phillys. and cardinals (had to say them cause i am a fan)
some retired players include Alan and andy benes, Rodger Clemens, soon Barry bonds, soon sammy sosa.
Some winning teams of late have been Boston 2 world series championships in 4 years. Yankees make playoffs every year. Angels have been great for awile now. last year was the first year since 02 that the St. Louis cardinals havent made playoffs. so there a bunch of good teams. but the one that stands out right now is the Red sox.
But if you want to know about baseball then i have to tell you about the Cubs. they are going for history this year. unless they win a world series this year, it will be 100 years without a world championship title. that is almost unheard of. its hard to be that bad!! so i am hoping they hit the 100 year mark so i can start counting down to 200.
hope i have helped

Well, I don't think i am going to take the time to explain all the rules to you, but I guess I can give you some other information. The Yankees are a great team (just one their home opener). Also I like the tigers this year. As far as good players, Alex Rodriguez IS the best hitter around. A lot of people are saying that Johan Santana is the best pitcher in baseball. To stay updated on baseball you can just visit mlb.com regularly, you can find out all of the important baseball stuff.

Well, the Nationals have a new stadium, Barry Bonds is absent for some reason, the Pirates are almost as bad as San Francisco, Roger Clemens retired, we think, and Detroit suddenly has a dominant team.
Matt Stairs!!!

Root for the Mets. At this point all you need to know is 1. Hate Barry Bonds 2. Hate Roger Clemons 3. Steroids 4. Philly Phanatic is evil.......thats pretty much it.

Too little space here for what you're asking. I suggest Wikipedia or something.
