I always wondered, I figure eventually they would develope into a collapsed empire. An abandoned metropolis is usually a very good scene for a movie, I think it's a very likely thing to happen.

I always found this interesting too, something that could eventually happen to every highly populated area once a resource runs out:

Edit: Nevermind, I was thinking of developed cities not countries...

To answer your question, I think.. We're going to turn into a dark empire, one with many rules.. But by then we'll be so brainwashed that we'll think it will be okay.

The more the developed, the more burden you throw on environment. You use more water, more ores. You use more automated things replacing your physical jobs. You use more of your brain and less of your body so you endanger your body itself. You generate more garbage, more hazardous material. You have more hospitals, more doctors along with more hotels and more roads. You burn more petrol per a man day. You migrate more from village to city and run more air-conditioners.

But its just the painful face of the development coin I projected - some of the de-merits of development it tried to list out. The merits of development - needless to say.

The European governments will never go for this. The Eastern European countries have put a drain on the economies of the wealthier nations. They are very concerned about immigration. The only reason that the particular Eastern European countries were granted membership to the EU was because of the strength of their economies and great growth potential. There are no African nations that can allow for that. In addition, I think the fact that radical Islam is such a problem in northern African countries that the EU would not want to open its borders to make it easier for terrorists to come in. ......and, as luckybeetle said, "its not part of Europe."

Captive clones of the developed countries.... copying never pays well enough....... strife and stress increase much more disproportionately to the increase in wealth.
