If you were given the opportunity to own a lingerie shop, or a sex toy shop, which would you choose and why and why do you think you would make more money with the decision you made?

The turnover rate of inventory will be higher in a lengerie shop, which results in less capital investment in inventory.
(You'll have to understand TO and profit ratios to grasp that)
TO is a key to profitability.
Lengerie will not feel a downturn as severely as "toys".
In a succesful shop one will have "more repeat customers" as well as their family & friends, over a longer period of time.
The owner will enjoy much higher prestige and respect in the community as well as among business associates.
Late night openings will rarely be necessary on a long term or regular basis.
Location among other fashion businesses will be more accepted, as well as beneficial for exposure to more customers.
I would make this comparison as well.
A strip bar as opposed to a piano bar in Hyatt House.
The caliber of customers in general.
My humble opinion. You ask which "I" would choose.

I hate to say it, but I would say a "sex toy shop." Perhaps that's just personal preference, but I don't think I've ever had the desire to go into a lingerie shop whe Victoria's Secret has that market locked down. Seriously, VS is all over the place.
I will say that I've gone into the latter if just for the sake of curiosity with friends. If you do the former, make sure it's EXCESSIVELY classy, because people can go anywhere for some cheap lingerie. This may come with a huge price tag. But, with a sex toy shop, I don't think you would have to "go for broke" on location and products.
