If you know and like Linux I would go with Linux, if you have never even seen Linux stay with Windows. The learning curve is steep.... Get some practice on Linux b4 you jump right in. It isn't like a Mac, which is designed for trained monkeys.

Most games are built to run on a windows platform. I know there are a few games for Mac (i.e World of Warcraft) But Linux is a by far better OS when it comes to performance and Security, IMO. But if your looking for running games and media..i would stick with Xp or upgrade to Xp Pro-Media center

I have a similar system, that's a very good video card for Linux.

Linux itself would run better than Windows and games that run natively in Linux may run a little better as well, but Linux isn't meant for gaming.

You can run some Windows games in Linux with a program called Wine, but gaming performance in Wine is always slightly worse than running them natively in Windows. I, too, am somewhat of a gamer, but I'm a full Linux user. The only game I really play is call of duty 4, which I can get running in Wine pretty well. Call of Duty runs a little worse in Wine and some graphics settings don't work, but I'm willing to run it in Linux over Windows anyway.

To find out if your games run in Wine, check here:

The is the version of Linux I recommend:

Here's a direct download link to Linux Mint:

Before going straight Linux, you might want to dual-boot (Run XP and Linux on the same computer). Here's some instructions on doing that:

    http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_...

*the instructions above apply to ubuntu, but they should apply to Linux Mint as well*

    Good luck

You can have both. I agree with snakeeyes that you really need XP for your games. Although you can game on Linux there are restrictions. Here is an ideal solution.

There is Wubi installer which allows you to install Ubuntu as any other piece of software within windows.

Wubi 7.04.04 installs Ubuntu 7.04, better than 7.10 in my opinion. Wubi does not interfere with the windows bootloader, there are other versions of Wubi but they are far from stable.

Find details and download of Wubi 7.04.04 @

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boot-Manager-D...

Be sure to download the 7.04.04 release.

I use it alongside my Vista installation and it works very well.

    Enjoy.

    LUg.

Hi, if u r a gamer then Linux is not for u. Those games r designed for Windows and they will work best with Windows.

If u r interested in trying out Linux then I suggest openSUSE.

    Here is my SUSE Blog:

    Good Luck!

Go for something you are most comfortable with. Which one you find much easier to use. Gaming needs a lot of horsepower (i.e. powerful graphic card, and lots of RAM, and faster processor). I can play Microsoft Pinball in Linux too.

Don't go with Linux its has no capability to run programs or games that you can get at stores and the programs that it has are no good, and it runs media horribly slow
