What do you think about amateurs playing in NHL?

I didn't know an amateur could play in the NHL but last night one did for the Wings. Here is a link to a story about it

I got to tell you the kid looked good, real good. I am thinking we might have gotten a sneak peek at 2008-09 rookie of the year.

Update:

LITY I may be a bit excited about the kid's debut, but don't you think failed is a bit of a harsh statement?

We got a pair of them in goal here in Philly.

  • It happens infrequently but it does happen. It just means that he doesn't have all the rights and privileges as a regular player has.

As far as your last statement, his debut failed in comparison to that of Kyle Turris for Phoenix.

In comparison, failed is the exact wording. Babcock was rather harsh on him in the post-game press conference as well mentioning that he was out of place, looked out of sorts, and 'may' have been tired. I agree that he was out of place a few times (name me a player who isn't) but I didn't think he was out of sorts or tired. But, he didn't have the same impact on his game as Turris had on his (and many times Turris was out of position as well). Both players cost their team a goal, Abdelkader in his own end, Turris in the offensive end.

Not bad. Not really like an "Invincible" story though, as he was already playing at a level just below the NHL, rather than in a beer league.
