Why have Liverpool appealed against Mascherano's ban?

They have then said they don't want to defer the extra two-game ban until after he has appealed. So, he misses tomorrow's game anyway and will only "gain" one game back if his appeal is heard before the following weekend's game?

Is it worth it for just one game "gain"?

On the day of the match a Liverpool fan actually apologised to me, a United fan, for Mascheranos' behaviour.

Remember that when he first got booked he told the ref to f-off 4 times, so close to his face that he was spitting on him (accidentally) because he was so irate. The second booking wasn't Mascheranos second go at the ref, He had 3 or 4 other shouts. For his second booking, he ran about 40 yards and when the ref backed away he chased him again. After his second booking he carried on, at first in the refs face then at the rest of the Liverpool squad.

And for this stupid behaviour, which lost the match for his team, he got a pat on the head from his boss.

Throughout the whole sequence the TV commentators were saying that he was out of order and had to watch his step. It was absolutely no surprise to anyone that his actions got him sent off.

Now a fortnight later he's poor little innocent Javier. Picked on by a vindictive incompetent referee.

I hope that his ban gets increased and that Rafa loses the player he comforted for 2 more games.

If you look at the time it took him to leave the pitch,it was no longer than average. The ugly scenes after he left the pitch was between him and the Liverpool management,so what exactly is the extra 2 game ban from the FA for.Any extra punishment given to Mascherano should come from Liverpool FC not the FA.I would imagine at the personal hearing they will show vidio footage to prove this. His behaviour was a disgrace,he let down his team and Benitez had to calm him down[of the pitch],nothing to do with the FA.

Quite simply, cause Rafa would probably rest him Saturday for the Champs League game anyway.

The reason for the appeal is quite simply lack of consistency, Liverpool would not be appealing if every player who got in the ref's face was booked for dissent.

I watched the Mersey derby and Hibbert twice got in the ref's face and actually told the linesman to F*** off, yet he didn't get booked for 1 of the 3 incidents.

I could harp on about many more, especially Rooney, but I won't bore you with the facts!!

    Lack of consistency!!!!!!!!!!

Cos Liverpool desperatesly needs him. Mascherano is Liverpools pillar of strength as he has help defended many balls. I am a man u fan and I think what he did is quite forgivable. His yellow card was well deserved for swearing. I thin that maybe as they were losing, and their golden boy, torres was booked, hef felt a little angry. He was right in devending his friend, showing his courage, but he could at least talk in peace, I think the referee may also be a little rash n showing him a red...

I think they have appealed because of the inconsistencies of the punishments given to other players for the same offence.

Also I believe they are using him as a scapegoat because they didn't punish CASHLEY Heres my name Cole for his show of petulance.

    examples of inconsistencies

Adebyeor In the final against Chelsea one match ban and 7,500 pounds.

Also John Eustace the other week

The right question is, why is it that Taylor who broke Eduardo's foot was only given 3 games ban, while a player arguing to a referee is given 2 games ban.

In fairness though, Ashley Cole provoked all this poop by turning his back to the referee and he got away scot-free. Mascherano has no right to appeal, but it still isn't justice as Cole got nothing.

Yeah it was like Masch got booked by an overzealous traffic cop on the way to the game I dont know what the **** was wrong with him that day he was exemplary against Arsenal the other night.

They aint gonna win anyway. He was in the wrong so now he should take his punishment and stop crying about it. Where the hell was Gerrard anyway while all this was going on. As the captain he should have been in there and pulled the prat out, everybody else could see it happening

as a devout liverpool fan i say he should get more than a 3 match ban and the token fine that he got!before that dispicable display of nonsense and disrespect i rated him highly as a professional but now he has slipped down to just another player trying to act like he owns the ref.....ban him for the rest of the season and that will teach him and all other players a bloody well needed lesson in manners!!!
