If you found a purse or wallet in the street with a considerable amount of cash in it and no name and address with it would you hand it into the police station or not?

If there was no way to identify who it belonged to, then No. I wouldn't. If it there was a way to tell who it belonged to, then, honestly, I would return it to its rightful owner - cash included.

Honestly? I would hang around were I found it for a bit and if no one was looking for something lost, yes I would. If it had a name and address I would still hand it in. Some may call me stupid but, a considerable amount of cash could be some old dears struggling by money or something..........if it were not so considerable, like 10 or20 quid then I`d hang on to it for a a day or so to see if there was a notice in a shop window before keeping it. Just to add that some folk as a last resort may well ask at the nearest police station. My mate found a ring which looked expensive, he handed it in and though the police did say it were unlikely some one would ask, they did and the couople forwarded 20 quid on to him. Sometime if some thing is undeclared it can be given to the finder.

Honestly, No i would not keep it, I would hand it in because i know first hand what it is like to lose my purse and only get it back with nothing in it. I had lost mine when my 2nd daughter was only 3 months old and i had my girls photo in my purse at the time i lost it so the person that picked it up would have known the money that was in there was for the kids. The police brought my purse to me and there was a note in it saying " Sorry but i took the $400 to feed my drug and alcohol habit and that is more important then feeding your kids. Man i was pissed off when i read the note.

  • I did and I did.

I found a wallet with £5,000 cash in it. I handed it into the police who traced the owner via his bank card.

I'm glad I handed it in, the man had taken the money out to pay for his car. I had a nice reward for doing it.

It goes to show that honesty is the best policy.

I would hand it in to the police.

Last year, twice I found a £1 on the floor. One time was when a women dropped a load of money and picked it up, i saw that she missed a £1, so i ran after her and gave it to her. Another time, I found a £1 in Morrison's, and didn't know who dropped it so I handed it in to the help desk. I would feel really guilty if I kept any money i found. However much money it was, I would hand it in and not keep it.

Well, if i was on my own, i wouldn't pick it up anyway. But if i was with my friends, i would pick it up and take the money. But depends on how much you mean 'considerable amount of cash', if it was over £20, i'd hand it to the police.

Well!!!!!!!!!!! In technical Q, I do not have any dilemma of selecting it.. I will select the correct or answer more nearer to the actual answer (if no one is correct!!) as the best. Also, if some person make funny comments with correct answers, they will be the first preference. Else, First come First serve.. In other Questions, I suely have the dilemma. Some times, my Q would have been answered by almost most of my favourite contacts . I will in a great heck!! I will give BA to some one else who has given near appropriate answer!! And if I am in a greater dilemma, I will select BA by Thumbs UP!!

yes, because if there's absolutely no information in the wallet, the police won't go out of their way to find the owner because no one can prove that it's theirs .. so by turning the wallet in, not only are you doing the right thing but you'll probably end up with the money anyway

That depends on how much is a considerable amount. If it was more than $100, I would consider handing it in.

id surely hand it over to the police station

imagine the owner desperately needed it

    i would be ruining a life if i took it...wouldn't i?

and if i even thought of keeping it , i would never be able to forgive myself throughout my life

so ya i would hand it over

by the way i asked a similar question out here

I'd put a found ad in the paper that said something like,"Found: purse. Call to ID" and I'd deal with it from that point... and if I never get a call, well I tried ;)
