fake paypal - service@paypal.com?

Hey all,

Just wondering, coz I'm not an expert at paypal. I have received an email from service@paypal.com, which looks genunienly like a paypal. It said that one of my buyer from craiglist have paid me, and is just waiting for me to ship them the item. After that I have to email back to contact_.pay@accountant.com to tell them the tracking number, which then I will be able to receive my payment.

Just wondering if this sounds like a fake for you?

Thanks all!

Fake. I got one about a week ago saying saying "Dear PayPal User"...that right there is a sure sign it's fake. PayPal communications addres you by your email address, to show authenticity...something a hacker or phisher wouldn't know.

The email I got said I had paid some iPod store $200-some dollars for an iPod, (which I did NOT do) and if it was a mistake, to log in and notify them.. Log in....then when you do, they have your log in info and access to any bank accounts within..

    YES IS FAKE...

It says in the PayPal ...

who wanted me to swindle me, he told me exactly what it says there.

    Alert: Scams on Craigslist

If you’re selling an item on an online classifieds website such as Craigslist, look for common warning signs that someone might be trying to scam you:

The buyer can’t meet in person because of a number of reasons (i.e., they are a soldier in Iraq, they are a marine biologist, etc.).

The buyer requested you send the item to their “shipping agent.”

The buyer offered you more money than you were asking.

The buyer asked you to send money through Western Union or MoneyGram to the “shipping agent.”

The buyer only sends you text messages and won’t speak to you on the phone.

If you received an email seemingly from PayPal that states you received money, look for these signs to see if the email is a fake:

The email does not address you by your first and last name.

The email says the money is on “hold” until you complete an action (i.e. send money through Western Union, or click a link to submit a tracking number). You can easily see if you received money by logging in to your PayPal account (do not click any links within the email). If you’ve been paid, you’ll see the payment in your account.

The scammers are also using emails with the header Paypel.

I have been scammed this week. Fortunately, Paypal spotted the unusual and suspended my debit card and blocked my account.

What is not easy is getting through to customer service who handle fraud. I contacted them by email and they replied telling me they could not assist as the email I emailed from was not connected to my Paypal account. The email has in fact been attached to my account since 2005.

Be very wary of PAYPEL and what ever prefix they use before or after their name.

Yes, it is a scam site, I was selling my snowmobile on Kijiji, this women called Angelina Paul contacted me and telling me that she was in Yukon and could not come to see it but wanted to buy it. she even said she deposited $8998.00 to my paypal account but I had to send $1989.00 to somewhere in U.S. first to cover the shipping fee before Paypal can release the money which is not the proper way for Paypal to do. I know it is scam. be careful everybody.

there are so many fakes out there.

always just go to paypal and look at your account--I never trust any emails from paypal.

you can also find out if it is real or not buy forwarding the email to spoof@paypal.com

paypal will get back to you quickly and let you know if it is from them or not.

if they addressed you by your name then its probably genuine. If they addressed you as "paypal subscriber" or someting generic like that then its fake. Call paypal to make sure.
