How far is the cruise port from Dubrovnik Croatia to the city center?
I can't decide if I want to do a tour or strike out on my own. Has anyone been there? Any must sees? Are things expensive? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
How much is a taxi or bus to the city center. In US dollars please.
Old Town exactly.

Hi
Port "Gruz" in Dubrovnik is around 4 miles from city center. Local bus drives every 20 minutes.
DUBROVNIK
An irresistible gem of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO described as the “pearl of the Adriatic by the English poet Lord Byron, city surrounded by ramparts and fortresses and pounded by the sea kept its independence and appearance over centuries. Its Romanesque, Gothic, high Renaissance and Baroque buildings remind us on times when Dubrovnik was an independent Republic, second in fame to Venice as a centre of cultural and economic power. Today it is a centre of contemporary economic and cultural events. The Summer Festival, an international review of great achievements in musical and theatrical events, and city’s museums, galleries and treasuries have made Dubrovnik a city of choice – a rich selection of experiences and excitements within mild Mediterranean climate and colourful scenery.

Strike out on your own! I was just there 3 weeks ago and it was amazing. We flew in and the owner of the place we stayed picked us up and took us into town. The cruise port is on the north side of the city and would be confusing/difficult to walk from there to the city center (Old Town).
I would suggest that you either take a bus to Old Town from the Port, or drop your stuff off where you are staying and get directions to walk to Old Town. We stayed at Villa Ivan - it was very clean and nice, Ivan was very helpful and just a great host. We found his place on HostelWorld and I would definatly suggest staying there.
Everything that you will need to see is right around Pile Gate and Old Town. Price wise, most things are about on par with Western European cities, but it is well worth the visit. I have been to most of Europe, and Dubrovnik is definately a favorite.

Heyy!
I'm from Dubrovnik.
I think you should go with the tour guide for sightseeing and then after that,go on your own,it's a really great place and you can't get lost.
Things are not expensive here at all.
In fact, they're cheaper than in GB and Italy.
Have a great time!
