Breading, periods, etc---do you ever want to give a really screwy answer? but didn't?

When you see questions about dog breeding do you ever want to give a serious-sounding but really whacked answer to discourage someone from breeding?

I am talking about questions that make you fear for the health and welfare of the dogs involved. Such as breeding a six month old 1 pound "teacup" female and a nine month old 6 pound male (they've already done it three times should I keep letting them go at it??when will she stop making that terrible sound??)

Lots of people will tell them "don't breed" and "it isn't safe"--- is anyone tempted to tell them something outrageous to try and convince them not to do it?

If so, what was the topic, and what outrageous thing would you make up?

Just today I told someone that the gestation period in labs differed according to whether it was black, yellow or chocolate and that they should contact the Labrador Club for details.

I've also been known to promote the myth that if a purebred b*tch is bred by a mongrel or male of a different breed she will never be able to produce purebred pups again.

My other favorite is to inform would-be breeders that day 30 after the onset of the dog's "period" is the correct day for breeding.

Although I haven't done it my self, I enjoy seeing people recommend a "vasek tummy" operation to cure the breeding problems of male dogs.

EDIT - KB, I'm a great fan of The Schnauzer Breeder From Hell. And she has beautiful dogs too.

I've told people getting a female spayed is the best way to make sure she has pups. I also frequently inform people wanting to breed ultra-small dogs or young dogs that there is a good chance their female is going to die. Oh, and if people want to know why their dogs WON'T breed, I tell them the dogs are smarter than the humans are.

I saw the Westie/Chihuahua questions and I answered them harshly because those people need to hear nasty answers to make them realize what a jerk they're being. Maybe it won't help, but I'm not close enough to give them the slap across the face they really deserve.

I would like to tell people to come enjoy my job for awhile. I hold the dogs while they are being euthanized. And everyday I cry as I drive home. Until you have held that beautiful life in your arms and felt, yes, literally felt it slipping away, you have no idea what the impact of your irresponsible breeding has done to the lives of the dogs and to the shelter workers/volunteers that get to clean up your mess. I did tell my neighbor, when she brought over her "teacup" Yorkie that she spent 1500 dollars on that I was on my way into the shelter to euthanize the ten dogs that that $1500 could have saved. She just looked at me. She can go get boinked, what kinda fool spends that kinda money on a runty little yapper. Jeeze louise.

    First, "Me and my beagle"-It's spelled "S P E L L E D"... sorry, couldn't resist.

Second, I have given "screwy" answers on purpose. One guy asked about breeding, and I told him the only way to successfully do it was to make sure his dogs are altered first. Hopefully someone will believe that and do it!

I have to watch that I don't get too sarcastic or mean, but I'm not witty enough to be outrageous :-). But for a good laugh for outrageous answers, check out this link - this reputable breeder near me calls herself the "breeder from hell" - her answers to the stupid questions she gets asked are great!

Sometimes I tell people that female dogs are only fertile two weeks after their period and everyone else is just messing with them.

  • I've never heard of people "breading" their dogs lol.

Yes sometimes but I feel its best for the dog to inform the owner

    It's spelt B.R.E.E.D.I.N.G.

And I believe the more people that tell them not too breed, the stronger the more influence the answers will have.
