I’m 38 weeks pregnant, and wondering if my bump is going to get any bigger over the next few weeks?

I know the baby continues to gain about half a pound a week, but i have read on more than one website that as the baby gets bigger from now on, the amniotic fluid goes down, so the bump stays about the same. My midwife however, said to me yesterday that i'm going to get much bigger. So i'm after some personal experiences. Thanks.

How much weight have you gained? Assuming you were average sized pre-pregnancy, you should only have gained about 12-14 lbs. Is it possible that you've just been gaining way too much weight (eating too much, eating very unhealthy)? Remember for an average sized woman having one baby- you should gain 1 lb a month during the first trimester, then 1 lb a week during the second and third trimesters. Polyhydramnios is a condition where your body produces an abundance of amniotic fluid, thus making you appear much larger. Have you had a ultrasound? If so, they probably measured the amount of amniotic fluid in your amniotic sac. If you have not had an ultrasound yet, ask your doctor/midwife if this could be the a possibility. Good luck!

I am 40+1 and I have got ALOT bigger in the past fortnight, I realise now when I said I was uncomfortable I meant I was restless, NOW I am uncomfortable!!!

My belly is so stretched the blood capillaries around my belly button are popping! Its all itchy!

You already count as full term though so maybe you won't have to go through this last stretch. If I had given birth at 38 weeks I reckon I would have put pregnancy down as a piece of cake. This is the tougher bit.

Hopefully we will both pop soon x

    Good luck x

Yeah you will get a big bigger but because you are already so big you won't really notice it that much. Your uterus isn't going to expand much more just the baby itself.

Try measuring your tummy size, not vertically but all around your middle. Its fun to see how big its getting. Do it first thing in the morning though before food and things can interfere with the measurement.

Good luck and fingers crossed for a safe and healthy delivery soon!

It really is all down to genetics, and no one can truly say how big you are going to be. Some carry large babies, some have more water etc. I was the size of a blimp, but my son was not even 7 pounds. I have a friend who was tiny all the way through and her baby was almost 9 pounds. Good luck, and congrats.

I use to say the same thing, when I was pregnant....& all of a sudden my bump was huge.Don't ask for a bigger bump, after delivery it's really difficult to get that bump back in shape especially after c-section.Even with exercise the bump does not go away & extra skin is there, then you have to think about plastic surgeon to get it right.
