Help with Microsoft Office Word: tables of contents, tables of authorities, etc....?

I know how to mark text using headings, styles, etc. but how do I mark text without it changing the format of the text visually?

Thanks in advance.

The short answer is that there are other fields you can insert that flag strings of text as table of contents entries, etc.with no reformatting Try this to find them (Word XP (2002) and adjacent versions. Word Vista (2007) probably has something similar.)

    1. Click the Insert->Field menu item.

    2. In the Categories list box, select Index and Tables.

    Hope that helps.

the in simple terms suitable way I actually have got here upon is to modify the formatting of your document utilizing the formatting drop-down options. (Heading a million, Heading 2, Heading 3 and so on). Then once you employ Insert - Index & Tables, word will immediately p.c.. those up and use them as titles on your contents.

Select the text you want to be marked and then select "Insert >>> Bookmark"
