Will a new processor increase GPU performance as well?

I have a 3 year old motherboard, it's an Asus A8n Deluxe SLI. I have an AMD Athlon FX-57 2.6 GHz processor. I just bought new RAM, CORSAIR 2 Gigs PC3200 my motherboard only fits 184-pin anyway. I also bought a new GPU Radeon 3870 512 Mb of GDDR4 in hopes of MUCH improved game performance, and my games ARE much improved. My friend has the same card, but much newer parts and his games run like a beaut. My problem is my games don't run as fast as his and I think I need a new processor. I've had my eyes on the AMD FX-60 because it's dual core and is 939 socket which is all that fits. However I don't know if that will improve my performance, or if I need an entirely new motherboard. In that case I would have thrown away 119 dollars for that RAM I bought to have to buy new RAM and new processor. I'm not only talking about parts of games with too much AI, but parts of games that have a lot of graphical effects happening at once. If I buy that processor maybe that will make everything faster?

You need a new motherboard w/ a modern processor.

As you can already tell from having 1 of the top of the line video cards and an old processor teamed up with slow ram, your graphics card is being bottlenecked.

Another thing: The RAM you bought should cost you no more than around $60. I can find DDR2 800 RAM for less than that!

Despite whether you choose an Intel or AMD platform, please make sure your processor is around the 2.66GHz range w/ dual core or better to get the most out of your card.

You don't necessarily need 1066 RAM. DDR2 800 will work just fine.

You can buy your parts from the link below so that you do not get ripped off again. I buy most of my parts from this site.

Beleive it our not, the processor doesnt make that big of a change.

    (unless ur talking a 500mhz - 2.6ghz or 512kb l2 - 4mb l3)

    Try this for improved performance:

    1. Disable useless processes (all but anti-virus and required)

    2. Disable that pretty look ( Right Click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > (Performance) Settings > Adjust For Best Performance

    3. Clean and organize ur PC (I personaly use CCleaner its free and better than any other tool ive ever used! ccleaner.com)

    4. Dont go crazy by pressing a billion button combinations and throwing ur mouse all over the screen, take ur time and PLAY! (that consume some cpu usage, just a little but in gaming every little bit works!)
