heart beat..? no heart beat???
My sister is pregnant..according to a stick and the doctor..but when they tried to hear the baby's heart beat it wasn't there.. she is a bigger girl and she is only 10 weeks (around) how they figured it..So has it ever happened that they didn't hear one and yet her period still hasn't came? Its been almost 2 weeks and nothing?plus right during them telling her they didnt hear a heart beat.. they said she had to sign this form? that was practully a abortion becuase there wasnt one.. She hasn't signed anything yet but she keep on calling her and telling her she has to. When this form says things can happen and they might have to take out her woman parts and she might not ever be able to have a baby.!The doctor was VERY rude when she said no.. im not signing it.. I am going to just wait and see..the woman kicked her chair she was sitting on and left out of the room and has been calling her about every cupple of days bugging her?What should she do? I am 34 weeks so I havent had this happen
She is a bigger girl... does that have anything to do with it.. I mean my God at 10 weeks its about the size of a grain of rice right?
You know what scares me too though? I have the same doctor.. and I cant change doctors at 34 weeks!!!!!!

She needs to see a different doctor. At 10 weeks, it's not unheard of for the doctor to be unable to find a fetal heartbeat (my friend was in her 4th month and they couldn't detect a heartbeat so they made her take an ultrasound--baby Kevin is a handsome 10mo old boy).
It is completely inappropriate for her doctor to have this sort of reaction to not finding a heartbeat at 10weeks, especially if she is a bigger girl.
Seriously, DIFFERENT DOCTOR. Advise her not to sign ANYTHING. Even after she gets a second opinion, I would recommend never returning to this doctor's office again. That sort of behavior is unprofessional to say the absolute LEAST!

This sounds really strange! At 10 weeks they should be able to do an ultrasound to find a heartbeat, as long as she has a nice full bladder. It can be harder to do it with the doppler alone if she is quite big anyway.
If there really is no heartbeat, it could be a missed miscarriage. I started to miscarry at 11 weeks, but the ultrasound showed that the egg sac hadn't developed at all. If I had done a pregnancy test at 11 weeks, it would have shown that I was pregnant, as my body was still trying to continue with the pregnancy. This could be happening to her.
I'm really confused as to why a doctor is behaving like this. I'm guessing you are in the US, because I don't know anything about having to sign a form like this in the UK, unless they have decided that she has something like a hydroform mole which needs to be surgically removed in case it becomes cancerous. The best thing they can do is to get an actual picture ultrasound to confirm what's going on. Then they can decide whether medical intervention is necessary.

It's very common not to hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks, especially if one is overweight. Most dr's wont even Try to listen until 12 weeks. I'd tell her to get a different dr cuz the one she has sounds like a total nutjob.
Now if was done with ultrasound, then they should SEE a heartbeat by 10 weeks.

A fetus develops a heartbeat at about 25 days, so 3 1/2 weeks. They should be able to hear it by now. If they did a vaginal ultrasound, they definitely should have been able to hear it.
But I don't blame her for waiting. I think she could give it 2 more weeks . . .HOWEVER, if she develops a fever or starts to feel sick she must go to the doctor right away. This means the fetus has died and her body isn't getting rid of it.

At 10 weeks and in a bigger girl, it will be hard as hell to hear a heartbeat by exterior doppler. She needs a 2nd opinion and an ultrasound to verify if the baby is alive or not BEFORE she make any decision she may not be able to live with without the proper info.
~~~OMG You have the same "Dr."!!! Call a midwife... you can ALWAYS swap care providers!~~~~~
yeah if she is bigger its gonna be way harder to hear the baby she needs to get an internal ultrasound done some times they cant hear the heartbeat until they are 12 weeks along with the doppler i wasnt a bigger girl with my second and i couldnt hear her until she was 12 weeks along because she was hiding out and she is still a stinker like that lol and she will be 5 next week
In bigger women it can be difficult to locate the heartbeat. She should go to the ER or another doctor and demand an ultrasound to see if they can find the baby and SEE the heartbeat.
Source(s): I'm a BIGGER girl and I'm 7 weeks pregnant - saw the heartbeat on an ultrasound yesterday...still cant hear it with a doppler though. - 1 decade ago
Most FHB's aren't detectable until around 11-13 weeks via doppler, in her case, being a "big" girl it might take longer! I would suggest finding a new OB and getting a vag. ultrasound done!
I sometimes feel this way and usually it is because I have taken cold meds, had too much caffeine or allowed some other upper into my system. Can you remember having taken any of these things? Are you having any other symptoms such as pain or numbness? Were you active before this happened? I would bet at your age it is one of the above things.
Go to another doctor. NOW. You can always get a second opinion. My friend had to wait longer to hear her son'd heartbeat being overweight.
