Why do people with no knowledge of the question asked, feel they have to answer?
Here is an example:
Someone asked if having two different tire sizes on your vehicles axle is illegal...everyone thinks they know everything about law and mechanics, not only did they give the wrong answer about legalities, but say it will damage the car!
They obviously have no idea what they are talking about, so why do they bother answering the question?
Doing it for points is one thing, but dont make the guy worry about his car or getting a ticket over it. Giving wrong information can cause trouble, say something off the wall for points or find an unimportant question like this one.
chankjlp I am going to have to agree with you 100%, its a mixture of subconscious ignorance and people that dont care to hear the facts and would rather continue in life believing what the want instead of truth.

Sometimes when a question is in my area of expertise and I am sure that my answer is 100% correct but the asker picked a wrong answer as the best.
For example, my area of expertise will be video games and the history of China. I will see a question like 'China is evil, free Tibet now!?' (How this is actually a question is beyond me, but it took Yahoo 2 days to remove it). I will answer the question with facts, links...etc and its ignored. In the end the one chosen as the best answer is from someone with no idea what they are talking about. Many times people just want to find someone who agrees with them and not really seeking an answer.
However, in a factual question as you describe, the ignorance of the public can be astounding. I get many thumbs down for purely factual answers.

There are many reasons why - also where ~you~ are living in the world is not where I am living. The law can be and often is vastly different from country to country.
Also it's about attitudes. You are in a forum that has some of every kind. Some people think they know everything, others answer only with the knowledge they have, while more just speculate.
If you already know the answer to your question, then there is no point in asking. If you come on yahoo answers to test people, then berate them for their errors, you'll find you are fighting a losing battle. One that you could never win.

Q&A is made up of a diverse community of members whose expertiece may not be in tires but perhaps feels they can make a contribution be it right or wrong.
Then it depends on the person asking the question to decide which answer best suits them in answering their question. All we can do is give one answer at a time based on what we know and not concern ourselves with others answers.
