When you drink, the alcohol quickly travels through your bloodstream to your baby. Your baby may end up with higher levels of blood alcohol than you have.

Drinking endangers your growing baby in a number of ways: It increases the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth. As little as one drink a day can increase the odds for low birth weight and raise your child's risk for problems with learning, speech, attention span, language, and hyperactivity. And some research has shown that expectant moms who have as little as one drink per week are more likely than nondrinkers to have children who later exhibit aggressive and delinquent behavior.

The most severe result of alcohol use is fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), a permanent condition characterized by poor growth, abnormal facial features, and damage to the central nervous system. Babies with FAS grow poorly in the womb or after birth, or both. In addition to abnormal facial features, they may have abnormally small heads and brains; heart, spine, and other anatomical defects. The central nervous system damage may include mental retardation, delays in physical development, vision and hearing problems, and a variety of behavioral problems.

Frequent drinking (seven or more drinks per week, including mixed drinks, wine, and beer) or binge drinking (five or more drinks on any one occasion) greatly increases the risk that your baby will suffer from FAS. But babies whose moms drink less can also develop this syndrome. And babies exposed to alcohol in utero — even if they don't have full-blown FAS — may still be born with some of these birth defects or later exhibit a number of mental, physical, or behavioral problems.

Fetal exposure to alcohol is one of the main preventable causes of birth defects and developmental problems in this country. More than 10 percent of women in the United States drink during pregnancy, and one in 30 pregnant women drink frequently or binge drink: The babies of all these women are at risk. So whether you have a severe drinking problem or a more moderate one, if you find yourself unable to completely give up alcohol, it's vital to get help as soon as possible. Talk to your provider about counseling or treatment options.

I'll tell you what happens ok? First off, it is NOT ok to drink any form of alcohol while pregnant, and second, when a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, that child is at a significant risk of developing fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. The affected child may be mentally delayed with a low IQ or they may have specific learning disablities even if their IQ is normal or high, they suffer irreversible brain damage regardless of IQ, and for those who are more severely affected, the prognosis is much more poor than for those who are mildly affected. Nevertheless, these individuals will ALLWAYS struggle. I know all too well because I have a diagnosis of PFAS, or partial fetal alcohol syndrome and despite my IQ of 129, I DO struggle. Don't drink alcohol while pregnant! It's stupid and ignorant aswell as selfish. Think of your child. Please, give them the best shot at life and abstain from alcohol completely. Not even a little bit of alcohol during pregnancy is safe.

5 Things You Should Know About Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy

    • Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, or FASDs, are caused by drinking alcohol during pregnancy. These conditions are among the top preventable birth defects and developmental disabilities. FASDs can cause problems in how a person grows, learns, looks, and acts. FASDs can also cause birth defects of the heart, brain, and other major organs. These problems last a lifetime.

    • There is no known amount of alcohol that is safe to drink while pregnant. All drinks with alcohol can hurt an unborn baby. A 12-ounce can of beer has as much alcohol as a 5-ounce glass of wine or a 1-ounce shot of liquor.

    • There is no safe time to drink during pregnancy. Alcohol can harm a baby at any time during pregnancy. It can cause problems in the early weeks of pregnancy, before a woman even knows she is pregnant.

    • About 1 in 12 pregnant women in the United States reports alcohol use. And about 1 in 30 pregnant women in the United States reports binge drinking (having five or more drinks at one time)*.

    • FASDs are 100% preventable. Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders are 100% preventable—if a woman does not drink alcohol while she is pregnant.

    Hope it helps

Some experts say moderate drinking during pregnancy is okay, but there are others who believe taking even one drink is like playing Russian Roulette with your baby's health.

One thing is clear, if you are pregnant and take a drink -- a glass of wine, a beer or a cocktail -- your unborn child takes the same drink. Whatever you eat or drink while pregnant goes directly through your bloodstream into the placenta.

If you're having a drink, baby is too.

For the unborn child, the alcohol interferes with his ability to get enough oxygen and nourishment for normal cell development in the brain and other body organs.

Research has shown that a developing fetus has very little tolerance for alcohol and infants born to mothers who drink during pregnancy can have serious problems.

I hoped this answered both questions.

This early, if the alcohol you drank negatively effected your pregnancy you would probably just miscarry. Don't drink anymore at all though, alcohol causes ADHD and other learning disabilities, physical deformities, and cognitive problems including the complete inability to foresee consequences (for example a kid that will put their hand on the stove over and over because even after getting burned they can't understand that it will burn them)

Although most people know this, it is important to remember to avoid alcohol during pregnancy. People used to believe that a drink or two during pregnancy would not hurt the developing baby. Alcohol consumption, especially during the first and second trimester, can adversely affect fetal development and cause long term birth defects, particularly Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. No amount of alcohol has been determined to be safe during pregnancy.

if you enjoy a drink I found that the NEW Becks non alcoholic beer was really nice - in fact I still drink it now. I recommended it to a few mates all who really liked it as well. I am afraid I didn't find any non alcoholic wines that were even remotely palatable.

It ruins any chance your child will have of succeeding in life, and ruins any chance of them being able to financially take care of the parents when they are really old. Basically, it prevents natural development of their brain and body overall. So, by not finishing, the brain (and other organs) do not function properly. And, if you can imagine what it's like when a brain doesn't work correctly, then you can imagine how bad alcohol is to pregnancies.

You will feel the effects as usual but so will your baby. You would be effectively force feeding it alcohol. If you did it too much it would effect the health of the child, its growth rate, its internal organs and its natural development in the womb
