What gave Great Britain the right to hand Palestine over to the Zionists?

people on this site keep saying Isreal is not based on a religion they say that it was given to the Zionists at the end of WWII

well what makes them think they had a right to give away land that isn't there's to begin with, a land populated with all three of the Abrahamic religions in it

if the British were feeling generous and wanted to give them some land why didn't they give them land that was actuall theirs to give away like wales or scotland

why give Palestine land that isn't theirs to mess with over to the zionists

I have asked this question before but nobody answered

Right was not a factor; money was. The various zionist organizations were very heavily financed and well-connected. No one has ever suggested - seriously -that the British had any right to offer Palestine to jews. It is accepted that they did not. The entire matter has everything to do with machtpolitik and nothing to do with righteousness - then or now.

Britain invaded and took over many countries in their empire - India, Australia, Canada, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, etc. All of these were at one time British property, which the British eventually spun off as their own countries. The land was theirs to give.

In WWI, in order to get support from the local Zionist population (this part of the world wasn't securely behind either side), the British promised the Zionists that they would establish a Jewish state. After WWI, they never got around to it. WWII, they made the same promise. President Eisenhower pressured the British to divest themselves of their empire. The British had made this promise, so when it came to divesting themselves of the Palestine area, part of it had already been promised to the zionists in order to gain their support during both wars.

Palestine was divided into 3 countries. Jordan (then known as "Transjordan"), Israel, and Palestine. The Zionists were actually given a small portion. Palestine attacked Israel, wanting to take over all of their land. Well, they lost and it kind of worked out the other way around - Israel took over the land that had been Palestine. Palestinians are crying about a war that they started and lost. Mind you, the majority of the orignal Palestine is still an Arab state - Jordan.

So, it was theirs to give; "Palestine" being in the hands of the Zionists is the fault of the Palestinians, and the truth is, most Palestinians do live in a muslim country called Jordan.

I dont know but the Palestinians certainly didnt deserve the land. They enslaved Africans before 1948.

The Un with it's partition plan essentially ratified the idea of giving the jewish Agency ( as the zionist entity was then known) the western part; they seized the eastern zone in 1967 by brute force.

I learned a little about this in this history course i took. Firstly The Jewish people are one of the biggest religious groups in the world don't have a homeland to call their own. The Zionist movement which is a group of people wanting the Jews to have their own homeland, was trying to get the Jews a homeland since the 1920s. After WWII and the holocaust it became clear, that Jews needed their own homeland.

Britain was responsible for the Zionist, but this is where you are wrong. After WWII Britain basically said, "look i don't know what to do with all these Jews(Zionist)." So they handed over the responsibility to the United Nations.

The UN is the one that decided to put the Jews in Palestine, and divide the country in two. Israel and whatever weird middle eastern countries are there. And they would all share the Gaza strip which would be like an international city. But the Palestinians got pissed, they didn't want to be outnumbered by the Jews in their own homeland. Thus leading to lots of fighting.

Also they gave the Jews Israel because the Jews have historical routes there. It used to be their place of origin. So to say why not put the Jews in Scotland, is kind of silly. And think of it, what do you do with those millions of Jews that want a homeland. The UN made what they thought was a good decision.

My friend that is what English did to most of the world. They had colonies everywhere from north America to Africa and most south east Asia. So we can say that Israel is the last colony to be solved the native Palestinian will never give their native land.. Genaral.

What gives any country the right to do anything? That's like saying "Who gave the US the right to become a country... the Native Americans were there first!" or "Who gave Australia the right to become a country, the Aboriginals were there first!". Really, you could say that about ANY country. Somebody was always there first... I'm not saying that Palestine doesn't deserve to exist, but I'm just saying that your point really isn't a very valid point.

Great Britain had control over the territory of Palestine after taking that control away from the Ottoman Turks during WWI. Regardless it was not the British who ultimately gave Israel its statehood it was the United Nations in 1947 and the Israelis declared their independence as a nation-state in 1948 to coincide shortly after the removal of the last British troops from the land. The rest they say is history.

    Good Luck!!!
