Tips on Foot Tattoos Please?

Hi all

I just wanted a few tips re: foot tattoos. I am booked in to get one in a couple of weeks time and just wanted to know how long it will take before I can put my weight on the foot and what sort of shoes I should wear etc. I have booked the day off work for the appointment but I do have to return the next day unfortunately! I do commute in London but I don’t have to do too much walking.

My tattooist is just finalising the design but I expect it to partially cover the top of my foot. Medium-sized I would say, and all in black.

I already have one fairly large and coloured tattoo on the small of my back so I am well versed in keeping it clean, moisturised etc and I do expect the foot tattoo to be more painful.

If you could share your experiences with me, that would be great!

Thanks!

i have a tatoo on my foot and it is medium sized and all in color and my foot never swelled. If you keep it clean and keep vaseline on it it will be fine. When u get the tattoo, the artist will tell you what shoes you should wear and wether or not you need to keep it covered. You don't have to limit the weight you put on ur foot after u get the tatoo, i put all my weight on my foot immediately after leaving the shop, but girl let me tell you it will be PAINFUL...that is one of the most painful places to get a tatoo...good luck and don't forget to ask the artist any questioins you have

hiya , i got a foot tattoo a couple of weeks ago which is medium size,it did hurt however it was bearable and after 20 minutes or so i managed just to blank out the pain.Seeing as im 16 and not the best when it comes to pain i don't think it is as bad as some make out ,and also seeing as you only want a small one it should be fine.I would suggest to get one when you can wear flip flops or dolly shoes as it is important that it doesnt rub in the first couple of weeks.Mine has nearly healed and i have had virtually no discomfort , there will be scabbing but this hasnt affected the colours or shape. At the end of the day its up too you what you get but i think stars, butterflys and patterns look good on the top.If you get one i would also suggest to apply bethamin cream which is great for healing ,however a good tattoo artist should go through it with you , hope this helps x

Hi there, im having a foot tattoo tomorrow too and cant wait, just to let you know you should NEVER use vaseline on a tattoo! If you had a cut or a sore you wouldnt put vaseline on it so DONT put it on your tattoo, the tattooist i go to can not stress that enough otherwise it'll scab over and fall off in chunks so your tattoo will be uneven. They always advise to use nappy rash cream (lol) but it does work and my other black tattoos have all turned out brilliant by using that sort of cream. Good Luck!!

Hi, I had a tat done on my foot 18 months ago. It does hurt a little but I think it was bearable. Although I did only have 3 star outlines, but still, the needle touched foot!

    Definately wear open-footed shoes.

Hope all goes well with it! :)

You can walk on it right away. I'm not sure about our placement but to be on the safe side bring a pair of flip flops with you to wear after. With the bandage and pain a normal shoe will be hard to put on. While mine was healing I wore ballet flats (mine's on the inside of my foot so any type of shoe was gonna be constricting)

When I was getting tattooed it wasn't too bad till he went on the bone beside my big toe, my god that was sore but aren't they suppose to be?

Don't wear your favorite shoes. When I got my foot tattoo I used the same shoes the pediatrist use's. It's cheap and it worked great. I got a medium size tattoo below my big toe. I rubbed lots of A&D ointment on it and the colors bearly bled.

My daughter has tats of her children's birth record foot print on top of her feet. She was able to walk out of the tat place and go to work afterwards. She just had to get a pair of shoes that would not touch the tats. She didn't have any problems at all and treated them just like all the other tats she has.

Well, it will hurt and if it's mostly on top of your foot I'd try pumps. Open top shoes. Sandals. Be gentle to your feet, keep it clean, and it'll be fine in a couple of weeks.

I have my whole foot done. wear flip flops or sandals when you get it done for a least 3 days cos it will aggravate it if you wear shoes etc . don't worry about walking long as its open it'll be fine, as for weight issues there is no problem cos its on the top of your foot, let the air get to it as much as poss. it will prob swell a little and look a bit angry but don't worry it'll soon go. make sure you keep it clean as poss when you put you re shoes back on . it'll hurt when you have it done but trust me it's bearable, you get loads of vibration. good luck foot tats look awesome

i had my foot tattoo'ed a year ago and it bloody well hurt! i couldnt bend my foot for 2 days afterwards and when i did,the scab that formed kept splitting,so i had to hop about everywhere and i looked a right ****, needless to say i had no sympathy of my husband he thought i had lost the plot!!!!

if you do get yours done, keep it well moisturiesed.
