Why would you think these policies of Obama's are bad?
· He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
· Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations.
· Opposed the Patriot Act.
· Supports universal health-care.
· Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.
· Wants to make the minimum wage a "living wage".
· Is a big believer in the separation of church and state.
· Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid.
· He voted No on repealing the "Death" Tax
· Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded.
Diplomacy would be a big step up from George Bush's immediately labeling other nations that don't agree with him as "the enemy".
Meeting with leaders of Muslim nations may quell thoughts of a "Crusade" and may even win support against the terrorists from those nations. I don't think any good Muslim will support the killing of innocent civilians.
Obama is voting against giving the president more power and skipping the legal process, whether or not the people are proven to be terrorist. We might get a president that follows the Constitution!
Universal health care would be a great idea for those would could normally not afford quality health care.
A living minimum wage would greatly help those people who have lost jobs in blue collar towns, where minimum wage jobs are pretty much all that remains (like the town I'm living in, for example).
Privatizing Social Security is possibly the riskiest thing I've heard. I've work for my money, but I certainly wouldn't trust it in the stock market. I'd feel secure if it was a set amount, not something that would fluctuate with the stock market.
The Inheritance Tax (aka "Death" Tax) would only come into effect if your estate is worth more than $2 million. Those that would benefit from it's elimination would be the children of people like Bill Gates (and he supports that tax).
Obama's not the only one saying the surge isn't working. Military strategists and generals are saying the same thing.
I personally see these as positives, and is pretty much the biggest reason for why I'd vote for Obama as President. I'm just curious as to how these are possibly bad ideas. I'm happy for the conservatives giving me the answers on their views, even if I don't agree with them.

1. Fidel Castro no longer leads. Hugo Chavez undermines the US at every opportunity because we are not socialists (hell, he sends millions and armaments to the FARC - FARC are the major suppliers of cocaine to the US). Kim Jung Il - Madeline and Kim clinking wine glasses, ring a bell? Kim basically con'd the Clintons - he got his free money and equipment, and still built his nuclear weapons. Ahmadinejad has destruction on his mind, gotta usher in the 12th Imam. But ya, Iran's missiles are within striking range of Israel and a number of European/Asian allies (Turkey, Germany, India, etc) - and much like Kim, Iran has a propensity for deceit.
2. Good for him - doubt they'll care. He's 'black' and the Muslims don't like blacks - see Darfur and basically any African country where Arab Muslims have invaded.
3. Thing about the Patriot Act is - despite NYT headlines, lotta accusations but not a single verifiable case of abuse.
4. Universal health-care... where you wait months to get an appointment for medical issues? See Canada, see Europe, understand the reasons we have the most efficient and best medical care centers in the world here in the US. Someone mentions 'Sicko' and I'll point out that Moore's own interviewees have come out and pointed out that the movie is another propaghanda piece devoid (ie: editted out) of opposing data. Not like you can't go to emergency room at the county hospital if you're flat-broke, they're not gonna deny you medical care. UHC also leads to a deficiency in talent - why stay in a socialized healthcare system (where pay and benefits are usually low) when you can capitalize on your knowledge and skills in a country that is willing to pay - this is the case with Canadian doctors fleeing the socialized medicine of Canada to practice in the US - it's lead to a shortage of skilled physicians in Canada.
5. Voted only 'yes'? McCain is stating he's gonna close the Gitmo detention center.
6. A 'living wage' for HS kids (and drop-outs), eh? Vast majority of minimum wage earners are young (mostly teenage ) workers. Raise the wage for these low-skill (or should I say no-skill) jobs and see a price rise in the associated service (no more dollar menu at McD's).
7. See - so does every other candidate. This is a non-issue.
8. No - he wants to turn Social Security into another welfare program. Those making less than $40k/yr will not have to pay into it but will still receive benefits. In order to do this he is going to have to nearly double the income taxes on the $40k/yr and above bracket, as well as destroy small business' here in the US - basically it would make us one of the highest, if not the top, taxer outa of the Western nations. This was all laid out by the Economist magazine about a month ago.
9. Bleh - more taxes, that's all your leftwingers want (get the feeling it's cuz most of you are to young to pay taxes).
10. Yet back in 2006 when asked about the Iraq war - he was advocating sending MORE troops to Iraq along with McCain. Yet now he says different since it's politically expedient for him to be against the war. Again - it's a case of Obama's past statements coming back to haunt him. It's funny though - Obama pushes for the invasion/bombing of Pakistan, yet not a peep from his supporters who constantly harp about Iraq and Iran.

Dictators don't deserve diplomacy.
Neither do terrorists.
The Patriot Act helped us find terrorism sleeper cells, with very little impact on the daily lives of the average American. I'd say he was on the wrong side of history.
Universal healthcare is a bad idea. It would bankrupt the government, lead to lower quality healthcare, and slower medical and pharmaceutical advances.
Allowing legal recourse to people who want to kill us is a really bad idea.
The entire idea of a living wage is a bad one, especially if used for minimum wage.
Separation of church and state has always been policy. The fact that too many people think that it applies to the individuals in government positions is sad.
The only way you'll ever see anything you've paid into Social Security is to privitize it. Or get Congress to stop dipping into the fund, which ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
Repealing the death tax makes good sense. That money was already taxed when it was earned the first time around.
The surge in Iraq worked.

He is a complete idiot if he thinks he can negotiate with Ahmadinejad who wants Israel and America erased off of the map.
Israel constantly tried to deal with Arafat before he died and Arafat lied time and time and time again. Arafat had rather lie than tell the truth. Arafat was in bed with Castro, Chavez, Jung and Ahmadinejad and other terrorists or Arabs. As long as you are against America and you hate Israel, then the Arabs and terrorists are for you.
You don't surrender to your enemy. It is a sign of weakness.
Obama is a weak man.
If Obama wins America will be bowing 5 times each day toward Mecca. That is those of you who are still alive. I will be beheaded for being Christian.
We have always fought for freedom. Freedom carries a great price in blood.
What part of Universal health-care do you call good?
- rhino9joeLv 51 decade ago
I support the above AND him.
He voted No on repealing the "Death" Tax (So does Bill Gates and Warren Buffet)
- How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

The only one I got a problem with, I voted for him is:
"Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid."
We need to create a system that is not held hostage to demographics. That might requires some pragmatic private service attempts.

What are all these people making a big deal out of the whole bitter thing? I mean, there areeee bitter people out there. Anyone who tries to deny that isn't seeing reality. There are bitter people, yes, it doesnt mean they are bad people, just bitter. About politics, about their society- many reasons to be bitter. Why is it such a problem that he said that? He is telling the truth- Hillary Clinton is just lying. Yes, it is what we want to hear, but is it really any better than the truth?

Most all are very liberal. The Patriot Act is protecting us from terrorists. Why take it away? I don't care if the government listens to me, they might be bored though. Universal healthcare is a crock. Who is going to pay? The rich gives to the poor. Why don't you go work for what you get, socialist!

They aren't bad ideas and happen to demonstrate exactly what Obama is talking about regarding change since most are directly opposite of this current administration's policies..

You have answered your own question, but Fidel gave up his dictatorship in Cuba to his brother, who is making life more desirable for the Cubans.
