In baseball, what is a pitcher's "dead arm"?
I have heard this term before and am not sure what it means.

Dead arm is a term that describes a pitcher whose velocity has dipped for a period of time. The time period can be a week or more. The term is never considered for one game.
Dead arm happens when a pitcher has thrown so many pitches. For example, if you were to run 3 miles everyday for a few weeks and without proper rest and recovery, you will not reach your peak preformance when you are asked to run in a race.

It basically means that the pitchers arm is getting tired. He's throwing far more than he should & he's risking the chance for injuring his arm.

It simply means that the pitcher's arm is tired, and is close to being injured. If you were to keep pitching, you may have to go ahead and get Tommy John's surgery. This is a career ending surgery for many.
