What would be the best way to preserve my late father's baby book?

It's full of old pictures (mostly black and white) and greeting cards. Is there a certain plastic bag I can put it in to keep it and the photos from fading?

Update:

I want to keep the book intact, not take it apart. My grandmother lovingly put it together with her own fingers and I don't want it changed or defiled in any way.

Fading is mostly caused by exposure to sunlight.

Keeping the book in a dark place will be sufficient.

Also keep it in a dry place to avoid mildew.

What you need to do is go to an art supply store and get 'acid free' stuff ... even get new paper and new paper tabs and re-mount everything AFTER you have them scanned and put on several DVDs ... put one DVD into your safe deposit box, and put the 're-done' book there, too, in an 'acid free storage box' to keep everything as safe as possible. Acid free doesn't mean it won't get old, but it will keep the paper from falling apart ... but GET THOSE DVDS MADE ... of every picture, and also take pictures of each page of this wonderful book ... someday you can show it to YOUR grandchildren or great grandchildren to tell them about 'Grandpa' ... and what a WONDERFUL time that will be!

I have to agree with Kris L.

You definitely want everything remounted on acid free materials and stored in an acid free box. You should also make sure you store this box in a cool dry place out of sunlight. Scan everything while your at it. This way you will always have copies in case something happens to the originals.

Scan everything, probably the best way to keep thins is to put them into zip lock baga. Papers worst enemy is moisture, such as humidity, so put thing into the zip bags, ensuring you get as much air out as possible. Scanning provided you with a permanent digital record.

    Good Luck

I know you hate to do it, but you might could take it apart and get those old photos and memorabilia into a Creative Memories book. Look in the yellow pages for your nearest Creative Memories consultant, and she should be able to help you. Hope it works. Grams

Source(s): I have been doing Creative Memory books since 1995. I'm on my 4th book, and I have SO many photos to go. I work at it in spurts. G.
