  • How do I figure out the remaining interest on this credit card that I paid off? Details below, please help!?

Balance of credit card was 5,775.00 on last statement. I paid $140 payment on 10-02-09 and paid the rest of the balance (5635.00) on 10-20-09. There are 2 different interest rates (one was promotional) so it gets tricky.

I received a bill for $69 in interest after I paid it off. I just want to check their math to make sure I'm not being ripped off because they are not figuring it right on purpose so they can make more money. It says that they are taking a "30 day cycle" and averaging the daily periodic rate from that.

Can someone explain to me how this works? I read the fine print on the back of the bill and it doesn't go into any detail on what happens when the balance is paid in full so I'm at a loss. It does say that when they average the daily balance new transactions are added "as of the transaction date, the beginning of the billing cycle in which they are posted to your account, or a LATER date of OUR CHOICE." (Emphasis is mine.)

I was told this "billing period" was from 9-22-09 till I paid it off, which was 10-20-09. That is not 30 days, it's 28. It seems to me that they are adding an extra 2 days which increases the finance charge.

  • Is it legal for someone to state in a trust that only "legitimate" descendants may inherit?

My father recently passed away. He was the beneficiary of a trust fund his father (my grandfather) left for all his children. I was told that there was a clause or something that my grandfather said that only "legitimate" children could receive benefit from the trust. I don't know the exact wording, but that is what the lady told me on the phone, and that she sent it down to their lawyers to make sure that it was legal in this state (Ohio).

I think that's very mean of my grandfather, paternity was established a while ago that I am my father's daughter. :( I never had a bad relationship with my grandfather, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad.

My father was receiving it, and will be the executor of his estate (working on it now) and his only child, he was never married.

  • What would be the best way to preserve my late father's baby book?

It's full of old pictures (mostly black and white) and greeting cards. Is there a certain plastic bag I can put it in to keep it and the photos from fading?

  • Credit card was credited instead of charged, what to do?

Someone I know's credit card was credited instead of being charged. It has been over a month and they didn't fix it. The credit card company sent the person a check for the amount of the credit.

What should they do about it? Ethically it seems it would be best to bring it to the attention of the company that they made a mistake but at the same time I had something similar happen to me and when I returned the money I had a golf ball smash into my car window when I was driving away! That kinda sticks in my head that maybe I shouldn't have given the money back, that it was meant for me.

I don't know what to suggest to this person because of this experience.

The person said that they would go to the company and ask if there was a balance for the service rendered and if not, then they would cash the check. Is this a good solution?

  • How do my husband and I relocate out of state with two small children and a home to sell?

We had this planned for a couple years and we tried to sell the house two years ago when I was pregnant, took it off to have the baby, tried to sell it again then I got pregnant again, took it off the market and need to try to sell it again. Is there an easier way to sell a house, or rent or something? My husband has a job with the USPS so he will transfer, no worries on the job front. Any advice would be appreciated...

  • Is Phenylephrine as effective as Pseudoephedrine for a nasal decongestant?

I am 34 weeks pregnant and my doctor last night told me it's ok to take Benadryl-D which has Diphenhydramine 25mg and Pseudoephedrine 60mg. I only had one of those left, so this morning my husband went and got me another box but this one says "NEW FORMULA" it now has Phenylephrine 10mg in it instead of the Pseudoephedrine.

I called doc and they said it should be fine to take it still but I want to know if it is going to work or should I return it and get the original kind?

  • Ancient births?

I wonder... what did people do when we didn't have scissors to cut umbilical cords? Did the mother have to chew it through like animals have to do? According to the theory of evolution we did not always know how to use tools (like a sharp rock).

Does anyone know if anything is documented?

  • Is there a way to childproof a water cooler?

Our 13 month old son keeps turning on the cold water on our water cooler (the hot has a childproof faucet on it, thankfully.) I can't seem to find any way to childproof the cold or block it off from his little hands.
