5 grams is approx one teaspoon. 5 mL (one teaspoon) of water weighs 5 grams, so solid material may be slightly less than a teaspoon but it is close enough.

There's no right answer to that since everything will have a different weight by volume...like water vs. flour vs. oil.
I worked at a store where we weighed the change at the the end of the day instead of counting it, and I know a nickel weighs precisely 5 grams.
