Please HELP!! math question?

Answer any of these And PLEASE DON'T WRITE DOWN A RANDOM ANSWER! JUST SAY "I don't know" and take the 2 points.

questions:

1. 1 times 10 to the -4 power meters is the thickness of a piece of paper. Write this measurement as a decimal.

2. What fraction of the letters in the word multiply are also in the word product?

3. Telephone area codes have 3 digits. The first digit must be chosen from 2-9. The second digit must be a 1 or a 0. The third digit cannot be 0. How many area codes are possible?

4. A 25-foot ladder is placed against the top of an inside wall 20 feet high. How far out form the wall will the ladder be placed?

5. 5 identical helium balloons are shown on the scale.they have negative weights since they pull up. use "N" to stand for the weight of the newspaper.

a) write an equation for this situation

b) intuitively, find the weight on the newspaper.

( it shows a pic of 5 balloons with the numbers -11 in each one. and a newspaper. and the scale reads 10)

Update:

please tell me which question u are answering!!!

and u only have to answer one.

thanks!

    Answers..

    1. 0.0001 meters

    2. 3/8

    3. 144 possible codes

    4. 15 feet

    5a. 5*(-11)+N=10

    5b. 65 units

    Answers w/ Reasoning..

    1. 1*10^-4 = .0001

    2. 3/8 since they only share the letters "u", "t", and "p" and there is a total of 8 letters in "m u l t i p l y"

    3. 8C1 * 2C1 * 9C1 = 8*2*9 = 144

    The C is for combination, if you're using the counting principles that is how you should show your work since out of the 8 you choose 1 and so on.

    4. use Pythagorean theorem with 25-foot being the hypotenuse and 20 as the wall side.

    A^2+B^2=C^2

    B^2 = C^2 + A^2 (solve for B)

    B = sqrt(25^2 + 20^2) (substitute)

    B = 15 or -15 (solve)

    B = 15 (answer) (reject the negative since you can't have negative length)

    or just use Pythagorean triple of basic 3,4,5 to get that

    5. Number of Balloons * Balloons weight + Newspaper Weight = Total Weight

    in this situation it would be..

    a.The specific equation is ... 5*(-11)+N=10

    b. N = 10 + 55 (Solve for N)

    N = 65

    4) 25 is the hypotenuse, so:

    25 x 25 = 20 x 20 + x squared (where x is distance between bottom of ladder and wall)

    625 = 400 + x squared

    x squared + 400 = 625

    x squared = 625 - 400

    x squared = 225

    x = 15

    so the ladder will be 15 feet from the wall

    1. 10 to the power -4 = 1/10 to the power 4.

    This equals 1/10000

    This equals 0.0001

    2. 2/8, which is 1/4 ie one quarter

    3. don't know

    5. don't know

  • #1) 1*10^-4 = 0.0001 m

    #2) 3/8

    #3) 8*2*9 = 144

    #4) a^2 + b^2 = c^2 >>>> a^2 + 20^2 = 25^2 >>> a=15 ft

    #5a) 10 = N + 5*(-11)

    #5b) N = 65

    #3. probailities question

    2-9= 8 numbers

    1 or 0= 2 numbers

    <>0= 9 mubers

    # of different code areas = 8*2*9= 144 different area codes

    Wow. That's a lot of work for two points. If I do all that work for you, your teacher will give you 100 points, and all I get is a lousy 2 points. That doesn't seem fair, now does it?
