If you smoke cigarettes, were your parents also smokers?

Both my parents were smokers. My mom quit when I was 10. My father still smokes (for 50 years now). I started at 18.

My mother was, but that didn't have nearly as much influence on me as the fact that 98% of my friends (and enemies, really) all smoked. I'm not blaming peer pressure, either. No one pressured me into smoking, and I'm the one who made the decision to start. I'm just saying that my mother isn't to blame either.

Ya, I started when I was 8 on vacation and both my parents were heavy smokers at the time. I was able to steal 3-5 ciggies a day from them when I got back from vacation without them noticing, as the were on about 80 between them a day, and I reckon it is this reason I still smoke today. I was a sports nut until the age of 23 and never hung around or was exposed to smokers except on that one vacation and by my parents. I am 34 now and a heavy smoker but determined to give them up.

There is that saying "new parents pass on half their own parents faults/bad habits, to their children and all of their own and that is why the world is so messed up today"

Yes both my parents were. My mom quit after my dad died. I still smoke, I started when I was 13, and one of my sisters does, since she was 17. My daughter does, and she is only 15. I would rather have her smoke around me, then have her sneak around. My other daughter hates it, and she's 10. My older one hated it too, and now she's smoking. I never hated it when I was a kid. I always wanted to try it. So my father let me, and I was hooked. My mom was so mad at him, but what could she do? She was a smoker too.

I used to smoke. Both of my parents smoked until they quit later in life. My father died due to complications from emphysema.

I believe my smoking was in part due to my parents smoking. Learned behavior and somewhat addicted from the second-hand smoke.

No...No record of smoking habbit running in a gene so far, is a personal habbit that can either be prevented or involved! It's a choice you made, though the preventive choice can be difficult if everyone around you smoke! But it's still a personal choice...

Yes. Parents and grandparents smoked. Getting ready to quit. Just too expensive and I still have to buy gas!
