Recurring severe canker sores?
My mom remembers that I started getting them when I was around 5 or 6. I get at least 3 every couple of months. They last for 2 or 3 weeks. I have three in my mouth now. One at the back of my throat on the top that is about the size of a dime and hurts like heck. One on the top inside of the lip that is about the size of a pea, and one at the front of the mouth about the size of a pea. I can barely even talk to my kids or eat. I've had them for about 5 days now, so I'll have them for another week or so. I've been to my docotr many many many times, been to a specialist and they all tell me that it's hereditary and it just happens. I NEVER got a single canker sore when I was pregnant with my two children, but any other time I get them. I use a non-sls toothpaste. I've tried ambesol and stuff like that, and it really doesn't help. I rinse my mouth with saltwater and it helps relieve the pain for a few minutes, but that's all. Anyone have any words of wisdom?

I know how you feel, I used to get them ALL the time, but haven't recently up until about 2 days ago, and now i have 2 in my mouth and it sucks. I'm not really sure of a fast way to get rid of them, but I found this really good pain reliever thats like a liquid anesthetic, it's called "Kanka" professional strength, you could probably find it at your local drug store. I was in so much pain a few mins ago and could barely talk, but i just put it on and now im in heaven ahh, pain free it feels so great! haha, but your saliva will probably wash it away within 20 mins or so, so you'd just have to keep re-applying it. It's totally worth getting if you get canker sores a lot and are in search of temporary pain relief.
Hope i helped :)

Good luck with that. I have had one or two of them before and they hurt like, well we'll leave that part out. I read up on them though when I got them and from what I understand there is not alot you can do and mostly they are not sure why people get them. I have only had them 2 or 3 times but the times I had them I bought these things at walmart that were wonderful! I am not sure what they were called but I got them on the toothpaste isle and they came in a small box. It shows a picture on the front, they are these little round things you put on the sore and they form a barrier to cover it. I had problems getting them on right at first but once I did get one on after while it made it feel so much better! If I ever get another one I will definitely use them again. Hope that helps.

Your best approach would be to find out what's causing the canker sores. At the earliest opportunity, drop by your doctor's office for an evaluation and hopefully a diagnosis will be made followed by treatment with medication and, if other problems arise, with the appropriate counseling and therapy.
