Are these both hate crimes - why or why not? Is there any difference between them ?

Update:
Update 2:

- and the second. Hope this one works:

Update 3:

- and yet many men took offence to the boys-rock t-shirts and campaigned heavily against it, led by Glen Sacks.

How is it that most men don't object to the Hustler images ?

    Absolutely YES!!!

ANYTHING that promotes violence against anyone, it is a hate crime. And using it for commercial purposes still worse!

Neither of them are even criminal, so how could they possibly be hate crimes? This is freedom of speech--if people don't like it, they can turn away, not support it, advocate against it, scream from the rooftops about their disgust toward such things, but they cannot stop it from being created, sold, promoted, and supported by others. And that is exactly how the world should operate. I don't like this material, I don't support it, and I am disgusted by both images, but if this is determined to be some sort of crime, then where does that lead people? It leads directly into tyranny and fear and control by others whose morals are considered superior/better/less offensive, etc. gaining primacy, thereby taking away the fundamental right to be offensive. There are currently already too many limits to speech, and if what bothers my neighbour determines what I can access, I am being controlled by the morals and values of others. That is not freedom. It would be nice if people would stop using their own personal offenses to dictate what everyone else should do; it would be nice if people exercised their own free will and chose to not buy into whatever they find objectionable to them personally, and it would be nice if people stopped shoving their own morals down my throat. Turn the channel, close the book, don't access material that bothers you, and I will do the same, but do not expect my particular take on things to mirror yours or anyone elses. As far as I know, we still have that choice. Once again, read or watch "The Handmaid's Tale" and see where this kind of thinking can lead people.

A hate crime is a CRIME motivated by the perpetrator's announced intention to do physical harm or another crime against a person because of the victim's race or religion. It must be something that is criminal to begin with, like an assault and the perpetrator must clearly state or indicate in some visible manner that it is being committed because of the victim's race or religion.

Merely exercising ones freedom of speech, like expressing an opinion or drawing a cartoon, even when the speech itself expresses hate or racism or sexism, etc., is not a crime at all and never has been.

So, you are confused. Something that is merely an offensive opinion is not a crime and so it cannot be a hate crime either.

Neither are hate crimes, because hate crimes do not exist. Both are examples of free speech - both are actually funny. And both make a point that leads a less-than-ponderous mind to ponder.

Since it is traditionally the role of boys to throw rocks at girls, why not turn the tables? And the Hustler cartoon makes a couple of good points depending on your interpretation - it could either be a commentary on the self-absorption or sex-absorption of society, or it could be a carefully directed insult at frigid wives.

As I said, there are no hate crimes. Because if there are hate crimes, that means that a certain percentage of crimes are committed out of affection....

The truth is that there ARE certain politically-privileged crimes, though. Crimes against prevailing liberalism, its chosen people, and its thoughts (though classifying anything associated with either liberalism or feminism as "thought" is being much too charitable) are considered "hate crimes" because that makes the smarmy left feel righteous, and helps organizations like NOW raise money come election time.

there's no such thing as a "hate crime." The term is a stupid, linguistic media plaything and a tool of the last respectable racists and sexists.

And nights: Tell that to Matt Hale. Or any of the other people that found out that free speech is only for the politically correct.

Don't, didn't agree with the guy. But he and a bunch of others were railroaded for being the wrong kind of radical.

hate crimes are defined by those in power, read Orwell's 1984 for a good example. 60 sec hate. You can hate as long as you hate who you are told to hate. The left is in control of the list not sure where to get a complete list just read the paper or watch the news for who to hate and who not too.

These are not hate crimes , the boys T-shirt is just funny.

I wouldn't consider either of them any type of crime. They're just drawings. =I I don't really like the message behind either of them, but I believe people should have the freedom to express themselves, even when they are saying things I dislike.

Which do you think is worse, making tee shirts which promote hate for kids to wear or to have comics in adult magazines which promote hate?

I don't consider either of them hate crimes.
