One thing farming societies learned early or they didn't live long was not to eat the seed corn and not to slaughter the breeding animals. No matter how pressing today's problems, losing the source of the future was the end of the road.

One of the key components of conservatism is low taxation, especially on the engine of economic growth. This includes wages and capital gains. Unless we continue to reinvest ourselves and the wealth we create our society withers and dies out. The Soviet Union collapsed because of that, they destroyed all future productivity. When the future finally got here there was nothing left. Whenever I hear people talk about taxing the rich or taxing the means by which they got rich I know they are talking about squandering the future.

We are all due, by virtue of our birth the right to our lives, to our liberty, to our safety, and the things we create or acquire through honest means. We have the right to enter into agreements with others who do so freely absent fraud or force. Yet taxes, and economic planning, and wage controls, and gun control all usurp those rights.

We do not have a right to free food, free housing, free medical care, free whatever. Everything that we get has to come from somebody else, taking that by force or fraud is an usurpation of somebody else's rights. When we build a society by stealing from each other, we get a society where nobody works anymore. This too was the fate of communist societies.

I'm a Libertarian, but it's a philosophy that encompasses many conservative ideas.

Because wealth redistribution via the government does not work - wasteful spending occurs. The prime motivator to keep people working hard and earning more money to start businesses which employ other people is the ability to make more money. Once the government increases taxes to the point that the money making motivator is removed, then the economic engine of the economy slows down, less in taxes will be collected, fewer social programs for the poor will be possible. Socialism does not work, never has. Humans are competitive and have a need for achievement.

It began when I got my first job, it was as a cashier at a grocery store. I would check out people that would buy $100 worth of beer, cigarettes, lotto tickets, and junk food with cash, and then buy $100 worth of food with food stamps. Then I got my paycheck and saw how much was being taken out in taxes. This was the beginning.

I am a logical and reasonable person. If you combine that with first hand knowledge of the real world, then being conservative is the only reasonable outcome. Not to bash, but there is no logic or reason in liberal ideals. None.

Because the far right and the far left can be too radical. Being a conservative, I do pick my causes and seek sensible solutions that look like they will have success. The solution may not be everything I want, but to see progress is good. And violence always fails.

Traveling the world and my college education.

Walking through Arlington to see all the markers who gave their last full measure for this country is humbling.

My truly defining moment was 9/11 to come to know that people are out to kill us and all the fancy words doesn't matter to them.

I love this country I love the idea where we can exchange ideas, worship, and protest without the government coming in and putting us to death.

This is still by far the best country on the face of the earth. I am proud of it and think it is the greatest.

  • because the Left would take every last dime from my hard work and give it to the government unions.

I am a social Liberal, but the government takes way too much and solves NOTHING. Liberal fiscal policies cause poverty. They punish poor fathers for being in the home and reward single mothers for having more children. The Liberals I know simply ignore the fact that the union gets 80% of the budget. It's in the News! They just don't believe it. Period. It's just awful how arrogant they are and how quick to accuse anyone who disagrees with them of racism, hatred, etc. Ignore the facts, and then attack on rhetoric.

Abortion. My ex-wife had a Abortion and I'm very sad about it.

I tried to stop her but I have no rights.Dads have no rights in America on Abortion or anything.I have always found the argument for abortion from women who say things such as "my control over my body" to be so shallow and childish as to be unbelievable. The body of a baby is not her body, it is the babies body. The mother does not own the baby because in America slavery ( aka ownership of other people ) is against the law.

Why do PEOPLE think ABORTION is not MURDER?

Newspaper headlines declared a tragic milestone: the overall death toll from the five-year war in Iraq has reached more than 4,000. Also, for every 15 troops wounded in Iraq, there has been one fatality.

The war in Iraq will undoubtedly remain a key issue in the Presidential race. Newsmen and newswomen in particular are likely to focus much attention on that 4,000 fatality figure.

Yet, I doubt whether a single questioner in a Presidential debate will point out a troubling truth: nearly that many American babies die in a single day from abortion.

    One day--nearly 4,000 deaths. A five-year war compressed into a single 24-hour period.

Who will dare ask about an exit strategy for the war going on on our domestic front? Who will interview the grieving post-abortive mothers and fathers? Who will ask the grandparents where their grandchildren have gone? Who will grill candidates at the federal, state, and local level about their support for the war on unborn children and their mothers?

The casualties in this war will not be buried with honors. In fact, they won't receive a funeral at all.

In all likelihood, they won't even have a name, unless their mothers, drawing on their inner courage, attend a post-abortion healing retreat.

Newscasts chronicle the struggles soldiers returning from battle sometimes face in dealing with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. Women undergoing abortion often have their own post-traumatic disorder to deal with, a disorder they may try to numb through drugs and alcohol.

Where are the discussions about public health policy to deal with the emotional trauma of abortion? How are women to re-adjust to school and work after losing a child in the abortion war?

The next time candidates come knocking on your door asking for your vote, ask them what they intend to do to end the abortion war. The unborn children of America deserve an answer.

    I don't know anymore.

I believed in less government and less spending but I don't see that with this administration.

Also I believe in the second amendment. We need that amendment because of adminstrations such as we have now.
