Getting blood drawn tomorrow - how important is the no eating drinking for 12 hours?
I'm 24/f, getting blood drawn at 7:45am tomorrow to test for various things after I went to the dr. and my blood pressure was high. I am pretty active - I work out every morning and I play sports in rec leagues and I eat relatively healthy. I was told not to eat or drink anything (except water) for 12 hours before my appointment, but I have a softball game tonight which will last until 8pm, and I will be hungry. Is it okay to eat JUST an apple at around 8:15 tonight? Or will that mess with things prior to my blood being drawn?

If they are testing your blood sugar and cholesterol, you need to be completely fasting, or your numbers could look falsely high. Eat a good dinner before your game, and have a snack in the middle.

Well, eat the apple during a break....make time for one.... during the game. Since they are evaluating your high blood pressure, it is extremely important to do what they say...EXACTLY... It won't kill you to do the right thing! Also, it will make you feel awful to know that you ate if your tests come back abnormal, and that will just create a mess....because, what if the results came back and they asked you, "did you eat ANYTHING?" so, don't eat after 7:45 PM!

Any food will mess up the lab results. It doesn't matter what the food is, all food has carbs, protein and fat that will not give an accurate picture of how your body is functioning. Tests for glucose and lipids especially need to be fasting. Drink only water and eat before softball.
