What is the safest thing to clean the outside of a fish tank with?
Can I use windex? Or what else can I use? The outside has a bunch of smudges and it just looks dirty, I need to clean it up a bit, but I'm not sure what is safe to clean the outside with.
Thanks...=)

I have both a marine and freshwater aquarium and I generally start with wet paper towels (water) and follow up with a paper towel that I sprayed (away from the tank) with Windex. Haven't had any issues. For the tank hoods, I'll take them to the bath tub and scrub them off (algae and salt build up).

No reason in the world why you couldn't use Windex. Just be careful when you spray it, keep the spray angled down. Or even safer, spray the Windex onto a paper towel away from the tank.
You can also get excellent results with very pure water. R/O water has been known to clean very old glass that commercial glass cleaners can't touch. Don't have an R/O unit? Don't despair - it's as close as the nearest bottle of Aquafina drinking water.

Try just a damp piece of newspaper, then wipe it down with a dry piece. That will remove most of the smears and marks.
Vinegar is 100% safe, even if you did get some in the tank.
Windex is OK if you are carefull. Dont spray at the tank, spray some on the cloth first, then wipe.

Windex is fine, vinegar also works. THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember is to never directly spray the glass because it may get in the water. Simply spray a towel and wipe the glass clean. I did this all the time when I worked at a pet store.

I've always used windex - but not like alot or anything - and my tank does have a top - but you shuld be fine. If you are really worried tho - you could just use water - or spray the windex on the papertowel, not the glass - and spray it on in another room.

by no potential DRAIN your finished TANK and by no potential USE ANY chemical substances to scrub. Now with that suggested turn off all electric powered instruments first on your secure practices and your pets. you may take your fish out in case you prefer yet this is quiet a chore. Syphon out 20% water from the bottm and attempt to suck out the poo and any algae on the backside. sparkling the climate off with a magnetic scrubber. condition your water by utilizing including conditioner till now you put in the tank. that's actuall superb to try this the day till now to help age the water. upload your water. The in case you have a 2 clear out gadget, get rid of the only on the properly suited and take the left one and placed it in the properly suited factor, and upload a sparkling one to the left. turn all your electric powered back on and you're stable to pass. I do mine each 2 weeks yet you're able to do it a minimum of as quickly as a month. have exciting!!

I have had my fish for ten years. I've always used vinger and water. Windex also makes a vinger mixture now too. Besides it being safe for your fish...it's earth friendly!
