Started shooting RAW (NEF) on my Nikon and can transfer from camera to computer/picture perfect...?
Attempting to open image in Capture NX but always get message "unable to load image" eager to work with the software on these NEF images...HELP
additionally I am not a computer expert..yes that compiounds my problem..
File size runs from 23+ to 26+ mb's
Just bought the D300..first images captured..on computer and in Picture Perfect..view only not allowed any editing...
Files are read only ...is that my problem?
If it is..how do I change them and to what type ?

Hmmm you don't mention which model you have. When I bought my D300, my older version didn't work. Try clicking on Help and Update, see if an update improves things for you?
Otherwise the only test I can think of is if it is a D3 or D300 try setting it to 12 bit instead of 14 bit?

that is a normal file size for a raw image. a raw inage is the uncompressed data from the image sensor of the camera, it is great for use when you are going to be editing the images as you can make more changes without distoring or losing any image quality.
I use silkypix to develop my raw images and paint shop pro to edit them and it works out great. silkypix is free, download it and see how you go
