Exciting holiday memories, or irresponsible parenting?

Saw these stunning pictures in the paper today of a father and son enjoying a dip in the water - at the top of Victoria Falls

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/42243/Victoria...

Update:

In the printed article it says many tourists do this. They have to wade out through the rapidly moving water to get to the pond

I saw those pictures too and they made me shudder. Exciting yes, for those who like that kind of thing, but not really the place for children at all.

I saw pictures of this in the Metro this morning and I was horrified! What parent would take a small child there? It doesn't bear thinking about. Fair enough if the over 18s want to take the risk, but I'm shocked that any parent would take their child.

What are men doing bathing in what is known as the fertility pool. Cannot remember the name of the goddess of the river and fertility but to native tradition that is the pool women go to when they are getting married.

  • The water doesn't look at all rough or rushing. It even says in the article that there are times when it is much less dangerous to be there. I say exciting holiday memories.

i didnt see any previous deaths mentioned in the article so i guess there hasnt been any because the sensationalist daily express would head line it. so instead of wrapping my child in cotton wool and tying him to a tree with non allergenic soft cotton sheeting, i would be in the water with him and letting him live life to the full.

Just like that other 'freak of nature', dangling (his) baby boy over some German hotel balcony. I trust that the Zambian Police shall do their duty, arrest the 'parents', and, charge them with child endangerment. In Zambia.

If that's what he wants to do then fine but that wee boy is to young to have a say in the matter yet alone realise the significance of it!

    What a plonker!

Irresponsible parenting, definately! Why would anyone want to put themselves, let alone their child in a vulnerable position like that? Madness!
