My puppy is sick and I need help.?

Ok I'm 14 and I have a 5 to 6 month old boxer puppy who is sick.My family dont have the money to take him to the vet and I dont know what to do. He goes pee ok and drinks water by himself. But he refuses to eat and has been throwing up and 2 days ago had diarrhea(which hasnt been as bad). I dont know what to do so your help would be very much appreciated.Thanks.

Update:

We talked to the vet and they reffered us to an animal aid place but they wouldnt help because he hasnt been spayed/neutered.Oh and sometimes when i'm sick and we dont have money i dont go to the doctors.my parnets are divorced and my moms a single mother raising 3 kids herself (all teenagers).

Update 2:

Oh and he has been vaccinated for Parvo. could it be distemper?

Update 3:

My parents JUST sperated a month ago and when i got we had the money to take care of him but because of the divorce we lost a lot of money He WAS vaccinated for PARVO and he got other vaccinations that he needed.WE had a dog pass away November of last year and she was doing the same thing but wouldnt eat or drink, wasnt using the restroom. She was at least 8 could these two be related?

Update 4:

OK MY AUNT JUST STOPPED BY AND BROUGHT SOME STUFF TO ME FROM THE VET.HE GAVE HER FOOD AND TOLD HER TO MIX IT WITH WATER OR CHIKEN BROTH.HE SAID DONT GIVE THE PUPPY PEDIALYTE BUT GIVE HIM GATORADE.THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IVE SEEN MY AUNT IN LIKE FOUR-FIVE YEARS.I'M VERY GREATFUL BECAUSE NOW I CAN GIVE MY PUPPY(BUDDY) THE TREATMENT HE NEEDS AT HOME.SO I DONT HAVE TO GIVE HIM UP.

This sounds very bad. I have listed the symptoms of Parvo virus below. I really hope your baby does not have that, as that is most always fatal. I am very sorry to hear about your financial situation, I have been there. It would be in the best interest of the dog to find it another owner, however I would definately try to have him checked out by a vet 1st to confirm if it is Parvo or not. The typical office visit for that should not cost more than $40.

I know your mom is doing her best, so I would suggest you try your best to help her out every way you can. Are you willing to roll up your sleeves and get to work to try to help your puppy? I know you are too young to officially get a job, but a there are lots of things a 14 year old can do to churn up some extra cash - FAST. You can offer to do some babysitting for a neighbor/family member, cut grass, offer to wash cars (get a couple friends to help you & host a car wash for donations), cleaning a neighbor's/family members house, wash dishes, do their laundry or walk dogs. Be reasonable and don't expect to get $40 for 1 chore, but $5 here and there will add up quickly! If you work hard and commit yourself, you can earn enough $ yourself to pay for the initial vet visit to at least get the test done, then go from there. It won't be easy and you will have to work hard. You may even earn enough extra cash to save for the next time he needs to see a vet for shots, etc.

Also, I would call every vet in the phone book, every animal shelter & boxer rescue group (and prob. even churches) and explain the situation to them and maybe they can offer a donation for your vet bills, or at least payment plans. Talk to your school counselor, maybe they can take up a collection there. Be creative and don't give up!!!

Parvo is a virus that attacks the lining of the digestive system. It causes dogs and puppies to not be able to absorb nutrients or liquids. Puppies are especially prone to it because they have an immature immune system. When dogs and puppies get parvo, they often have severe bloody diarrhea, (that sometimes can be yellow in color) vomiting and lethargy (very, very tired, almost life-less) usually they stop eating and develop a bloody, foul-smelling, liquid stool.

Symptoms begin with a high fever, lethargy, depression, and loss of appetite. Secondary symptoms appear as sever gastrointestinal distress, such as vomiting and bloody diarrhea. In many cases dehydration, shock, and death follow.

If anything, I think it is a good sign that the dog is at least drinking and urinating. My prayers are with your family and puppy, and I hope my suggestions help you help your dog.

I am really sorry to hear that your little puppy is ill. Being an owner of three dogs myself, I understand how awful it can be when they are ill. Unlike humans they can't tell you what hurts, which is unfortunately why a trip to the vets is so vital.

In England there are animal charity hospitals for people who can't afford vetinary treatment when their animals are sick. I take it there is nothing like this available to you?

It could be that your dog has something stuck in the tummy and may need an operation. Boxers like to chew, so I understand, and this may be what has caused the problem if something has become lodged in his tummy or bowels He may also have eaten something that has just disagreed with him. Or it could be a bug. But he needs checking out either way as no amount of guessing will help.

But you have my sympathy. Although you should not have taken on a dog when you have no money to care for the dog, I know how heartbreaking it will be if you have to give him up. But not as heartbreaking as it would be if something happened and the dog died when something may have been done by the vet to save the dog's life.

Your puppy may have an obstruction in it's stomach or intestine. That would explain not wanting to eat. The trots could result from that but it is more likely an illness. Since that is beyond your means take your dog to the humane shelter and turn it over to them. If you cannot take the puppy to the humane shelter, call your local animal control officer and they will pick up the dog and take it to the shelter for you. If the dog can be made healthy the humane shelter will do that and then they will find a new home for the puppy. I think you really like your dog and this is one of the hardest parts for a pet owner. You have to do what is best for the puppy... not what you want to do. Your puppy needs attennntion from a vet.... NOW! I'm sorry you will loose your friend. Please wait to get another puppy until you have the money to give it all of it's shots, take it to the vet for check-ups , and you are eally able to care for it

You really need to get him to a veterinarian. You really shouldn't have a dog if you can't afford medical care for it. Do you go to the doctor when you are sick? Seriously. I don't understand some people. Poor dog landed in the wrong hands I'd say. Do you have a local Humane Society that has veterianary staff you could call? They could maybe arrange something.

try to get him to eat PLAIN rice.. and boiled chicken. its good for their bellys and will regulate his stomach. keep allowing him to drink lots of water.. he may just have a stomach flu that he needs to ride out. if nothing seems to help.. you need to at least call a vet.. they get that they're expensive.. but explain your situation over the phone and see what they say. if all else faills.. the cheapest vet would be your local petco. they have a vet clinic every sunday from 230-430.. and its a lot cheaper then regular vet office. good luck.

Hon, if you can't take care of your pooch, try contacting an animal shelter so that you can surrender the dog to them so he can get the care he needs. I know you love your dog, so maybe you should do the right thing so he doesn't die.

It sounds like parvo. Has he been vaccinated for parvo? If not, please plead with your parents to take him to the vet as it is a matter of life and death for your dog. If parvo is not professionally treated immediately, the dog will die.
