Bob Marley - "I Am Legend"?

In I Am Legend, when Will Smith quotes Bob Marley, did Bob really say that? I know in real life he was shot and performed at "Smile Jamacia" two days later. But did he really say "The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off. Why should I? Light up the darkness." Also, was that really his theory, that you could cure racism and hate with love and music?

Not sure if that was a direct quote, but my guess is yes. I know the "Light up the darkness" part is, but not sure about the rest. Bob Marley believed very strongly that love would cure the world's problems, and his music was the way he spread that message. Just listen to the lyrics of his songs.
