fellow atheists - if we're wrong, are we still saved?
this is kind of a weird question
but don't you non-believers think, that IF it turns out we're wrong and there actually is a God (unlikely) and IF we go on up to the Pearly Gates when we die (very unlikely) and IF St Peter looks us up in his Big Book of Life and judges us according to our Earthly actions (staggeringly unlikely)...
don't you think that the omniscient God we DON'T believe in will welcome us with open arms?
[God voice:]
"come on in, atheists! you refused to accept My existence based on hearsay, authority and dubious evidence! you chose to think for yourselves! well done!
you truly employed the natural talents I gave you! not content with recycled clap-trap and religious mumbo-jumbo [God is British, of course] you effectively employed your intellect and critical thinking skills. and by doing so, you've passed the test!
the bar's over there, and the hot-tub with the gorgeous supermodels is a little bit further down on your left."

Well if we are wrong then, surely an all-loving god will accept the following statement to be true:
You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he may judge you on your merits coupled with your commitments, and not just on whether or not you believed in him

Here's how I see it... In the very very unlikely possibility that there is a life after death and that everyone is judged by god (any god... take your pick of the thousands that have been invented by the imagination of man) it would be perfectly acceptable to lay ones unbelief in god's own hands and demand that both justice and mercy ought to be served -- if that should fail, just flash up a nice bird and walk out. You wouldn't want to be saved by the likes of an unfair lord anyhow.
But never mind... all the Heaven and Hell talk we've heard is pure bunk and so is the idea of god. Nothing of religion can be trusted to be true. Question all of it carefully.

Your in the wrong category! This category is religion & spirituality. Your looking for the selfish and self centered category. You want to be in this category, I can feel the fear in your words. You bring up a great point. If your wrong the outcome doesn't look so good. But what if I'm wrong. Well then I just die and nothing is lost. You sure do hope I'm wrong. And I don't really care if your wrong or not.

I think so. Most atheists are good people, and having taken a minority position have given a lot of thought to the likelihood of god's existence.

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 8:24
Jesus speaking-
Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
Proverbs 15:24
The way of life winds upward for the wise, That he may turn away from hell below.

i think im more agnostic but there is this one story in the bible where there are two brothers and one is faithful and helps out the father for many years but the older one is idk an alcoholic or something but become good last second and comes back to the house. the father gives the money to him because he is the oldest in the house and the younger one is upset because he felt he was more deserving...
i dont believe in this or anything but the bible is basically saying it doesnt matter how long u r faithful, as long as u eventually accept it or something even if it is on like the day of judgement.... soooo i guess i would go to heaven... btw sri if i said the story wrong :/

Since nobody can agree on what god is or what he wants, the only way to answer that question is by making guesses about what feels right.
It's literally like asking how does Santa get into houses with no chimney. Whatever sounds good.

probably. at least it'd be hard for him to pick the wackjobs that are the religious right. now as for more moderate religious people, hard to say (but we'd still come first for the reasons you say). after all, why take idiot assholes who do believe, over intelligent and accepting nonbelievers.

Heaven for who? Those supermodels mightn't feel too blessed if you hopped in next to 'em. =P
You'd hope so. Otherwise it really wouldn't be heaven if that was the God you got.

Sounds even more fun than hell, so long as they have hot guys there. Last time I checked Christians were against lesbians (for strange reasons) xD
