(dressage) Another prospect - opinions, please?
Okay, yet another dressage prospect I am looking at. I'd love to hear opinions on this mare.
CSH reg. 8 years old. 16 hands. $13000 (will sell to me for $8000 since they need to clear out horses) Scores of 70's and 80's at her first dressage show.
Just wanted to add:
I know she is being ridden overbent and goes b/t/v in some parts of the video. I would work with her on this - would rather hear about what you think of her conformation in general, potential, etc.
My goal for now is to get to level 2 and go from there.
I'm not concerned with the price. I think in my area this is the average a horse for her would go for.
I will be doing a test ride and prepurchase vet exam, don't worry about that. Like I said, I would like to hear your opinions on her potential.
I thought the dip in her neck was from being overbent. In the video, around 5:18, I don't see the dip (as much, atleast). That's when she isn't being forced into a "frame" too. Or am I just seeing things? lol

Nice mare but...... First impression is that she has high withers and there is a dip in her spine, just infront of the saddle, at the bottom of her neck. So would suspect that she is lacking muscle in the saddle area. Difficult to know without naked picture.
The lack of muscle infront of the saddle shows in her front action. When she walks her front right moves a lot more than the left nearly crossing infront and in trot she raises her right knee higher. Possible nerve problem in her shoulder/wither area where the dip in her neck is but not something a vet would pick up without an X-ray.
She is on the forehand inspite of having a well developed croup so suspect she is croup-high which may not be obvious because of the high withers/lack muscle.
In canter she does not bend to the right (stiff left shoulder) and at no time does she really engage her hocks. She trails her hip on one side in canter too (the right I think).
So ...nice mare but has obvious nerve/muscle problems in shoulder and hips! Might not have much milage left.
I'd keep looking ;)

I'm sure it would be great experience for you to do that. Especially if you want to go to an equestrian college where you'd eventually have to break and start a horse by yourself. I'd say if you have your dads full support in this go for it! I've always wanted to do this but didn't have the money. Just pray for no accidents or large vet bills... Including any sort of lameness. But as said before.. You might be able to break even. Especially if you don't bring back a horse with the pedigree to boot. Some may also want a proven horse.. May have to show this horse at least a few times which will be another expense.

I think shes a VERY nice prospect, maybe a tad behind on the bit here and there but shes got nice front movement, GREAT hock action and she's definatley a looker. She's got some excellent chrome on her face, a nice touch. And bay, my favorite :) - Id say from the little bit of the video I saw, she might need some extra encouragement to really move forward up front and back, she seems a bit held back. I think letting her ride lower into the bit and really enforcing some more forward movement she might really get a good feel for some extensions. Looks like shes got it in there but I dont think she's showing all that shes got on the video. All around, she looks like a great prospect. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me - Id be trying her out and of course running ATLEAST a flexion on her. Id ask for recent clean Xrays as well as a soundess guaruntee on her.
Good Luuuuccckk : 0)

She looks like she has good potential. she has a nice frame and looked like she obediently went through her paces. She looked athletic and fairly well trained. You said she was 8, so she is still young but it looks like she has a lot of natural talent. Especially if she scored 70s and 80s, that is phenomenal for her first dressage show. All in all, this looks like an awesome dressage prospect. You could go VERY far with her! : )

OK that horse sounds great! But I would keep looking if you are looking for a smaller price. I think you should get this horse if you are going to show but go see her first, she is definitely a great horse!!! Don't give up just yet! I found my horse at a good $2,000 and I looked for about 2 years. She is well trained, but dressage horses usually are bigger prices. A good place to look for horses is: http://www.dreamhorse.com/ if you are truly happy with this horse go for it! hope you are happy with this answer!

Adorable! She looks like she could be a jumper too, very nice. I think that is a perfectly good price for her! I would snatch her up before someone else does!
