A question about "spoilers" and those who read them?

As most of you may know, I've been a wrestling fan for 41 years now. Until the advent of the internet there were no "spoilers"; we got excited about upcoming matches and cards, and waited until the actual event to enjoy the show.

It's distressing to me as a long-time wrestling fan to see so many users here putting so much credence into these "spoilers" sites. Do you not enjoy the actual shows? Do you not like to be surprised at the outcomes of the matches? Would you be a happier fan if you had the "script" in your hands so you can follow along with it? Or do "spoilers" replace actually watching the shows?

My question, and please take it seriously, I really do want to know what the appeal of these "spoilers" sites are:

Why do you go to "spoilers" sites? No further explanation from me. I want to hear YOUR reasons. Those of you who do not go to these sites are free to answer but I really want to hear from those who do.

I don't have cable at this moment so for me to find out whats going on on TNA tv or WWE tv I have to rely on the web. because of that, there's no point in me waiting til the night a show airs, i might as well find out whenever the show is taped. that is why i read spoilers.

i don't however, use the knowledge i get from these sites to spoil other people's chance at watching the show. it is disrespectful to post a spoilers without a warning. i understand that alot of people don't want to read them. and if someone is going to ask a question about spoilers they should put it in the question field to warn others who might not want to see it.

I don't go near any spoiler sites of any description and that includes WWE, TNA, ROH, NJPW and Pro NOAH.In the first place, these sites operate on theory, speculation and "second-guessing".Nobody knows for sure how Vince or Dixie have booked their respective matches. So how can any credence be given to these sites before the events have happened.

Whatever promotion it is, i want to watch the shows without any prior knowledge so i can try to work out what's going to happen during the match. What move comes next, will he go up on the ropes or go for a technical finisher etc. That's the fun, the excitement and the mystique of being a wrestling fan.Watching and waiting to see how a match pans out, what feuds start, what angles will be starting etc.Spoilers ruin this and just deaden or numb the whole experience for the genuine fans.Wrestling entertains, spoilers ruin it.

I do not go to wrestling spoiler sites, they ruin the whole joy of being a wrestling fan, sure,i watch the wrestling more for the wrestling but i hate the spoilers, they ruin every thing that will happen in the upcoming WWE/TNA/ROH/ Events and any other's for that matter,I prefer To not look at spoilers,I want people on here to stop posting Questions about spoilers and there thoughts of those "spoilers".

Spoilers Ruin everything Wrestling Stands For,People Should just wait and see what happens when the wrestling event happens, they shouldn't look at spoilers,it doesn't entertain them, does it? so why look at spoilers when you can get excited and watch the wrestling event instead of having it spoiled for you? it doesn't make sense to me,and i don't look at spoilers.

    Spoiler sites ruin wrestling....PERIOD.

Instead of watching the show to see what happened, a lot of people run to spoiler sites and ruin the show for others by reading what happened. I don't go to spoiler sites, and I never will, due to the fact that they help ruin the show. It's like reading a chapter summary instead of going through the whole book.

I really only read WWE spoilers, since I care about it less than I used to. I'm a huge ROH fan now, and their board, the only real authority on news about them, is moderated by the booker of the company, and there are no spoilers, since they keep everything under wraps there. I still get really excited about ROH's shows, but WWE doesn't catch my interest as much, so I read the spoilers, unless I am going to a WWE show, in which case, I want to be surprised.

  • First off Great Question. I do sometimes go to a spoiler site BUT not to spoil shows...i like to check up on injuries and stuff the wwe doesn't post(like right now i would go to my site i have saved and see whats up with hbk..until waiting until tomorrow). Sometimes I do come across a spoiler or two...but in general I try not to spoil anything. I know people outside of these boards who spoil the shows...I don't understand why they do it though. i've asked them myself but they arn't as into it as i am i guess. I try to keep it a surprise for the fun of it. I like when i predict stuff based on a feeling and not knowing anything about who will or might win or in some cases come back. i went to the rumble so weeks before hand i made it a habit not to go to the site anymore..and even if i did in that case they didn't know about cena returning themselves. but since the rumble i havn't even gone on much at all.

Atheism isn't the truth. Atheists are more easily swayed by scientific theories, which are the closest thing to the truth we have, than some religious people, leading to the belief that atheists have truth and everyone else is S.O.L. But it's not true entirely because some believers also believe in scientific facts and theories, so they also have the same truth I do, with an added layer on top in that they believe in god, as well... . I can believe that I know the truth about evolution without denying someone else's claims about creation. I think their claims carry less weight than mine, are incapable of being proven or disproven and thus strike me as less than believable, and are less convincing on the whole. But they can still believe it. In the end, though, truth is truth and one version of events has to give way. I think it's pretty clear that the scientific version has more evidence to support it and will probably win out in the end, and at that point, it will be considered foolish to believe otherwise. People can still believe what they want, but I think they'll quickly realize that they're fighting a losing battle.

I avoid spoiler sites like the plague. For awhile, I used to look at them to see what the future plans were, but it ruined it for me. What's the point of watching if you know what's going to happen? Half the fun of watching wrestling for me is trying to predict what's going to happen. As you probably know, they reuse a lot of storylines, gimmicks, and angles. It's fun for me to guess what's going to happen, based on what I've seen before, and get it right. When I'm wrong, however, I like to be surprised. If I know the results beforehand, that ruins any and all elements of surprise that I might get. Besides, most of the time, the spoiler sites are wrong, so there's no point in believing them anyway.

Spoiler sites do just what their name implies. They spoil pro wrestling. I wish people on here would stop posting spoilers, or at least let us know you have a spoiler and don't divulge it except for in the additional details section. That way, people who want to see them can and people who don't want to see them don't have to.

Well the only reason I go to spoiler sights is if I am not there to see the event. I love watching the event and I agree to who ever hates spoilers. I usually check them if I am away or cant make it.

  • i dont know if it counts, but i live in australia, and usually i see what matches happen on ecw, a day before. The spoilers i read only say the matches and who wins, and talks aboutthe storylines, and rate the matches.

I usually watch raw, smackdown, ecw, 2-3 times a week, i watch the replays and watch heat.

The one thing my spoilers dont tell me, is what moves are done in the match, and luckily thats what i watch it for.

The on thing i dont understand, is why do people keep, reading spoilers that are wrong. For example, the Edge wins the money in the bank breifcase was a huge rumour on here, and when i watched the show, it didnt happen.
