To mainstream Christians, how come you do not accept the Book of Mormon as a further Revelation of G-d?

I have seen so many questions about Jews not accepting the Christian Gospel, what is wrong with the LDS one?

Update:

Michael, there are many questions asking why Jews do not accept Jesus as their savior. That means accept the New Testiment.

Kerry: I said further revelation, not replacement.

many will say it is because the LDS gosple is not true or revealed by God.

What they fail to understand though is that the Jews think the NT is not true and not revealed by God.

It's kind of ironic, isn't it?

Edit-- And to the first answerer-- if you haven't seen that then you haven't heard the terms "Jews for Jesus," "Messianic Jew," "Completed Jew," and probably have not been engaging in many interfaith religious debates... it is said all the time.

One reason is because the answers I get to my questions are are twisted back over themselves. For example, I asked why they believe that Jesus is a separate individual from God when the verse John 10:30 says "I and the father are one." The answer I got back after a few moments of debate was "well, they both work towards the same goal, and can thus be considered as one." These kinds of responses are all that I ever get.

Secondly, the Book of Mormon is in contradiction with accepted Mormon doctrine, such as the idea of one God vs many gods. For example, 2 Nephi 31:21.

Piecing together everything Ive examined, I cant really say what mormons believe in. This makes me think that their book is probably false.

Thirdly, there is not really any archaeological evidence for any place or event in the Book of Mormon. What exists is sketchy. However, there is a wealth of evidence which is contrary to things in the Book of Mormon.

Christians tend to believe that the God of the Old Testament was a wrathful and violent God. When Jesus came, the religion was tempered and love was emphasized.

The Book of Mormon starts right off with battles where God destroys 16 of the cities of his beloved people, including the children. This sounds suspiciously like the vengeful God of old just moved over to the new world.

Why do you choose to worship such a terrifying, violent God? This is a being who slaughters his own sons and daughters. I find it a little alarming that this violence does not bother you. Although the Book of Mormon dismisses the victims of God's violence as "wicked", they still are, in fact, his children. Whatever "divine worth" they may be alleged to possess seems very minimal indeed given passages like this. All of which begs the question: You can worship what you want, but why would you want me to worship a being who kills his own offspring by the thousands when he gets angry?

When it boils right down to it, the best reason to repent and follow the Mormon god is that if you don't, he will kill you. Mormonism, in the big picture, is an institutionalizd threat against individual security, offering "protection" against the threat in exchange for obedience: "Repent and follow me, or be destroyed."

Unbelievably enough, Mormons call this "free agency".

Your question would take a long time to answer in its entirety.

The short answer is however, is that the LDS teach a different Gospel than that of Christ.

That's a key to Mormonism. While they use words spelled the same, the meanings are often radically different.

I don't accept it, because the Bible says not to. The Book of Mormon says that Jesus came to the Americas after He ascended to Heaven. Jesus said people would say stuff like that.

Matthew 24:4-5 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. (5) For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.

Matthew 24:23-27 At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. (24) For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. (25) See, I have told you ahead of time. (26) "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. (27) For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

I see no worthy credentials of Joseph Smith being a prophet or a translator. The Bible doesn't need another testament. It does a great job on it's own.

Just looking at the Book of Mormon, shows falsehoods. It mentions horses, honeybees and many things that weren't introduced to this continent until later. It mentions steel and silk at a time that the Jews did not have them.

My testimony from the Holy Spirit rejects such writings.

There is no evidence besides the ramblings Joseph Smith that it is true. There are no prophecies in the Old Testament to verify any of the book. No to mention not a shred of archaeological evidence to support any of the claims. Many times in the Bible it is stated that this is the final word of God. There have been many other people trying to re-write and change God's word. All have failed to come to the truth. Lastly there are all the legalistic requirements of the LDS. There are no legal requirements in the Bible. When I see any religion using legalistic laws to control the members I get worried.

I'm amazed how so many christians have no concept of the bible, let alone the gospel of christ. They have no concept of how scripture is written, revelation from the holy ghost, or what their own beliefs are.

To be really honest here..I have read it from cover to cover? And it is a "Great Work of Fiction"..some of the best I have ever read? It also has good "Comedy" parts as well...and interestingly enough, the "Writers" do not share the same "Vision?" and many of them seem to have been tired, and very frustrated, because you can actually read their endevours to try to keep the story line going? But, to no avail, and had to "Switch" writers, after such long efforts of creating passages that were simular to actual "scripture, coming up with reasons to have a story line? But, even though some of it is boring, and repeats itself (as though the reader is a dim-wit!) I did find it very entertaining! And, not only that? You should read the "Doctrines and Covenants and Pearls of Great Price!" this one is a Doozy! (And i thought the Book of Morman was fiction!) Get your hands on one of these! Stephen King "Must have had one to write all his stuff!" "Peace!" "One who has actually "Read the Books!" Amen!

A man, traveling west, setting up a town, no law enforcement, no preacher, (died on the way or when he got there - historical records not clear), women out number men 3 to one, and he gets an "epiphany" from the Christian God to lead these people and is given "golden tablets" that only he can read and interpret?

I'm Pagan and I don't even believe that story.

The story about Joe finding the gold plates , about nobody bing able to read them except him , about nobody being permitted to see or examine them , about Maroni flying off with them , is just too much to expect intelligent people to believe .

That puts the entire Mormon religion on the word of one person who had many many opportunities to show and prove to others , but made sure that nothing could be disproven , because nothing was seen . Very very suspicious .
