So Jeremiah Wright hates America, huh?

http://www.nndb.com/people/219/000169709/

I know it MUST be true because conservative Christians on the Interwebz keep saying it, but I'm having a hard time reconciling that with this:

"Jeremiah Wright voluntarily yielded his student deferment, quit college, and enlisted with the Marines, while draft-eligible young men like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Dick Cheney used their deferments and family connections to avoid military service. After two years in the Corps, Wright joined the Navy, and earned three letters of commendation."

Also, I still can't figure out why it'd matter if he did indeed hate America because I'm not planning on voting for him. Can anyone help me to figure this all out?

Update:

(((Tilt))) I barely use that one anymore, but I'll check it right now :)

Update 2:

Reverend Wright has 2 master degrees, a PHD, speaks 5 languages. And his speech last night illustrated that he is both compassionate and humorous. But the Media today showed snippits completely out of context ---- as they usually do.

If I wasn't already going to vote for Obama, I would now.

PS: I would hope that Reverend Wright sue the Major Media groups for defamation of character by their snippets that led all of us to the wrong conclusions about him.

Yes. Not only does it scare me but the responses of some people who think that JW's preaching is fine and dandy also scares me. Obama should have left this church a long time ago, at least before declaring himself a candidate for the presidency. The fact that he is still a member means that he sees nothing wrong in hating whites and America. Now, what does that say? Looks like I'm going to vote for Mickey Mouse again.

Everyone has a right to an opinion. Here is mine.

I do believe the issues are more important than character, but that character is a good measure of an other's future actions. You can't dismiss what Wright said. He said what he said. He didn't say it accidentally. It wasn't taken out of context. He repeated it. He stresses it. Now he stands by it. I heard it in full, and not in sound bits. It was hateful. "Don't tell me words don't matter", who said that? I'll hold him to his own words.

Obama was in this man's club. He wasn't there on accident. It matters what his mentor said. I find Wright's service to our nation commendable, but his words despicable.

I only mention any of this, as you have brought it up, and will be glad when the debate moves on to more substantive points.

I saw him on CNN live last night - and I agree with a lot of what he had to say. He is a very eloquent speaker and made some excellent points. More power to him! I do notice that when some right wing conservative types don't like someone they always bring out the damned American flag and call people they disagree with as being unpatriotic! I live in Canada - and I think a lot of Canadians would probably feel the same way I do - he is the real deal!

There was also an interview on Yahoo in which wright said oe of his speeches was actually a quote taken out of context.

Yeah, but we'll never hear the truth in this ordeal anyway.

Wrights served in the military. Benedict Arnold was the greatest hero of the Revolutionary war! He saved the revolution during one battle, yet he is not looked at as a supporter of the United States because of actions he performed after his "hero days".

Wright hates America because he invoked his god to DAMN America. That does not show love for the country. Besides, this preacher of hate was a Black Moslem until he found that the coffers filled faster from the ignorant people that he now preaches to. Also, if he doesn't Hate the United States, how can he refer to the country as "The U. S. of KKK A."??

Now, as to why it matters? It matters because someone who wants to be our military commander and chief has him as his "Spiritual Adviser"! The man who has a spiritual adviser who hates the United States, ALSO hates the United States.

I wouldn't vote for some Klansman racist, so I surely wouldn't vote for a Black Racist.

Why it matters! Obama spent twenty (20) years listening to this hateful rich black man who tells his people they are all victims of the white man, while he lives in a white neighbourhood in a 1.6million dollar house. You can't listen to a raving lunatic for twenty years, call him your personal consular and mentor, use his words in your books without believing what he says and taking to heart. Obama is a fantastic speaker, but don't be mislead by his carisma.

Though I am a ex serviceman, you know you don't have to be in the military to serve your country. There are many ways to do that.

he could land a few blows on the politicians calling him a hater of America. although war does change people and maybe he hates the country beause he risked his life and got nothing but racist shxx when he got back.

Yeah, he's really un-American. Whats more Anti-American then being a member of the military?

Source(s): Sarcasm, as I'm sure you can tell.

welcome to the neoconservative spin machine!

i don't believe a single word that comes out of a mouth of a conservative republican.

saying what he said doesn't make him America hater and i believe he has as much right to say whatever he wants as those on the other side of the isle.
