Please refer to Surah 2 Ayats 190 to 194; Surah 2 Ayats 216 to 218, Surah 3 Ayat 152, Surah 8 Ayats 67 to 69; Surah 8 ayats 38 to 42. Surah 2 Ayats 216 to 218 and a host of such others and you can see the true face of Islam.

Refer to the history of Islam where it all began with the War Mohammad waged on Mecca and the Battle of al Bad'r and subsequent slaughter of the beni al Quraish, beni al Nadir , beni Qu'na'yna and many other such Jewish tribes.

Mohammad, himself, displayed his intolerance in having ordered the assassination of Uqba bin Abu Muayat, who was executed before his very eyes and whom he replied, when asked for mercy on the grounds of who would look after his children, with "Hell"!

Asma binti Marwan, Abu Afak, Kab bin al Ashraf, Ibn Sunayana, abu Sufayan, the one eyed Bedouin, Abd'allah bib Sa'ad, two signing girls and Ka'ab bin Zuhay'r are some of the prominent names of the Dead Poets Society that was made by Mohammad.

Can you expect "Religious tolerance" from a people whose "Prophet" was a murderer and killed people for daring to criticize him?

By the way, I don't know what Happily Happy read, but, the translation of the quote you gave isn't what he said. Significantly, your quote contains " ... and we said to him [the defeated one] will you testify that Allah is the True God and none else, or shall we smite you in the neck. And the families watched trembling as we smote the infidel." there are references to the girl who was burned, a horse race and other such things; but, none of the stuff that Happily Happy quoted which is not even from the same thing.

By the way, the History of Islam is one where the genocides of the Jews in the Arabian Peninsula, the Sun worshiper of Egypt, the Assyrians and Sumerians and Babylonians of Iraq and neighboring present day countries, the Parsis of Iran, the original Buddhist inhabitants of Afghanistan and many Indian ethnic groups were done.

The Crusades, in response to the Jihads that took Jerusalem and began the invasion of Europe stopped this "Religion" from causing further damage.

While a lot of modern Muslims are decent and are trying to brig sense among their kind, it's unfortunate that that the bigots and ill-educated ones far outnumber the educated and sensible ones.

This is the problem and the reason why we need to be cautious.

OK, let's assume, for the sake of this debate, that the Surahs and Ayats that I quoted are "out of context" and are related to a "defensive" [which is far from the truth and highly debateable] War; how come there's no justification for the list of the Dead Poets Society that I detailed and all the other Historical fact that I provided? Obviously, because you can't find any defense for that, isn't it?

Islam Tolerance Of Other Religions

I love the comments about the Crusades. What defenders of Islam never mention is that the middle east was all Christian and some pagan until Mohammad rooted them all out by military conquest and mayhem. Then they took over Christian northern Africa...then Christian Spain in the 700s (i.e., well before the Crusades). The Crusades were a reaction to Muslim conquest, to regain Christian lands and protect them for pilgrims going to the holy land. What hogwash to treat the Crusades as "what started it all". Oh, and then the Muslims also tried to take over all of Europe ever after they found success in Spain. They attacked France, and Eastern Europe, getting as far as the gates of Vienna in the 1600s. Riiight, the bad Christians started it all. What bull.

It is mostly after 9/11 that Muslims have changed their tune and want to be seen as peace full. Up till then they they had always bragged how they spread Islam by the sword.

If by some mis fortune they have an upper hand again, they will revert back to their boasting again.

Silly question, the proof is in the pudding, how many Churches, Synagogues, Hindu or Buddhist Temples are there in Saudi Arabia? The answer is none because they are not allowed.

Well you can read the book of Surah (in the Qur'an) particularly chapter 8 interested me:

8:12 ...I will throw fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Then smite the necks and smite of them each finger.

8:13 That is because they opposed Allah and His messenger. Whoso opposeth Allah and His messenger, (for him) lo! Allah is severe in punishment.

8:39 And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah...

There are many more verses like that which don't exactly spell out tolerance and theres the example you gave. If you ask me they arn't particularly tolerant.

I don't know why I somehow keep on thinking that Islam is tolerant towards other religions...many stories support this idea, a Moslem is not allowed to hurt, let alone to kill, the so termed non-moslem....should prophet Muhammed ask to destroy the temple, he had 'a good reason' that we probably don't know yet....perhaps that's why 'Trust/faith' should come first before logic....may be you have another view, brother?

Islam is not only tolerant of other religions but also protects non muslims living in an islamic society as demonstrated by the prophet of islam (SAW). The jews that were not antagonistic to Islam during his time enjoyed protection under his leadership

Muslims have lived with Christians and Jews in the middle east for centuries. There has never been a war until bigots from the "Western nations" started imposing their thinking on the region. That goes all the way back to the Crusades.
