Some people do say that, they prefer or would like to marry a man that has a wife before rather than single and unmarried man, why is this so?

No, I don't like to share and I don't play well with others.

My grandmother grew up in a Mormon polygamous home. It was hell on earth. The father was absent most of the time trying to provide for the family. The wives had to compete with each other for very scarce resources. Each had children and wanted everything they could get for their own brood. Her own mother died young, and she was used as slave labor for 10 years by the other wives until she could run away.
In polygamy, when one man takes an extra wife, there is a man somewhere who doesn't get a wife. Why do guys always think they will be the rich and powerful man who wins?
In fact, most men lose sexual opportunity under polygamy. It isn't anything like the concept of group sex.
Polygamy involves lifelong responsibilities of the kind many would rather avoid.
Can you imagine 10 wives, all of whom expect you do go to the movies with them so they can have some time to talk to you alone for a change? Every day.

Few people would mind, as long as they are the minority gender in the household
;-)
But seriously, most women in societies where it is practiced prefer living in multiple wife arrangements as long as one of them doesn't try to be the alpha female.
If the members of the harem get along well, then they all become friends (even lovers).
But this wouldn't work well with American women, who as several here have admitted, "don't like to share" (aka: they're selfish)

If I was the one wife to many husbands, sure! (for those with no sense of humour- this is a joke! I'm not intentionally insulting everyone's intelligence, but it has happened before)
But I don't think I could handle living with a bunch of women- I don't share well, and there would be too much tension.

Yeah, I could use a few good women.
They get to split the household chores and have a hangout buddy for when I'm too busy to pay attention to them.

I would love it! Then I would have someone else to help clean up after my husband and listen to his endless prattling about sports.

I would have several husbands yes... no problem.
Men are useful for lots of things around the house.

Definately.
They could specialise.
One for cooking, one for laundry, one for general cleaning, one for recreation.
I guess I'd only need the four then.

I have lived in a polyamorous home. My fiancee and I have a girlfriend, but she is currently out of state.
Why? We fell in love.

You better believe it..... I've always believed : 1.] "Variety is the spice of life"...... 2.] "It's hard to say no to several naked women".
